For those of you union guys, how the day to day of the techs is impacted when the company and union have not reach a deal and no contract (colective bargaining agreement) is in place ? Could that situation last long ? Thanks

This is why you keep the work in house. No contractors doing traditional phone work..you still need someone to place cable, splice cable and fix cable etc.albeit less people for many reasons..

17 prem techs in the Wisconsin North region will be surplused. Still working on final list, trying to use numbers instead of senority just like last time. 4 green bay, 8 Appleton, 4 in fond du lac, 1 in sheboygan. With forced movements to equal out head count as needed.

Well ATT could prevent the younger techs from getting whacked to some degree. If they’d mimic Verizon’s offer! ATT is only shooting there selves in there own foot, as one day these older workers leave -they will have no younger work force! They can’t spend that pension money anyhow....may as well get a little generous get the older workers off the payroll, they will still need a work force even if it’s smaller!!

My question is what is the Union supposed to do in a environment of stagnant business conditions? Force the company to install more Pots lines? Start to deploy copper again? Move people to Time Warner so they can develop content? Stop the mechanization of so many processes? Someone posted that the copper fill rate in some areas are falling to 15% for voice services and in the new areas only a 5% take rate. If correct that also is representative of CO,s, DEG, etc. How does the Union combat that?

Yes its happening, and of course the CWA knows the numbers and where its happening. This is why we have no contract, I think it's going to be a big one. The crazy thing is you would think that our CWA leadership would get out in front of this surplus and let its members know asap. But that is not going to happen, all they care about is that they will still exist and how much money will be coming in after the blood bath. But hey let's stick together brothers and sisters because we care about the little guy, lol. Wisconsin North prem techs are going to hit hard. I am thinking anyone hired after 2012 will be gone.

If true it sounds like they were serious about finishing the fiber build in the 2nd quarter. People will start coming off the payroll near that timeframe.

The union will claim they had no idea it was coming. They will claim complete surprise.

Kinda of figured it was going to happen, lets see District 4 give some BS excuse about this with still no contract if it hits the Midwest.
