Home garaging produces atleast 1 extra job completion a day on average. If 10k techs across the country home garage, that's 10k extra orders a day that get done. Multiply that by 52 weeks, 5 days a week, for the last 5 years. We have some crying they are overworked while others cry work is drying up. Keep working yourself out of a job.

Traveling to another job at your expense after the surplus may make the lightbulb turn on. Make sure you get to that 1st job early, and pick up OT to finish that last job. Enjoy it while you have it. Dumb *** working yourself out of job. Make it last.
Stopping home garaging and voluntary traveling everyday to and from the company garage at your own expense would be just plain Stupid! Come on...

Home garage means you start your tour at the site if your first job at 8am in the company truck you drive home vs. showing up at the company garage and receiving orders from your boss at 8am and then driving to your first job.
Can someone please explain Home Garaging? What exactly are you doing or not doing? How does doing this lead to 1+ additional job completion?

Home garaging is definitely a big contributor towards the upcoming job cuts. What's done is done now. If we stop it may save some jobs down the road in the later surplusses this year.
It is volunteer in parts of Ohio
Nobody would be stupid enough to volunteer for that

If you don't meet your metrics, you will not qualify for the employment security commitment that is in some contracts. Guys low on the totem pole have to hit the numbers incase they are surplussed. Others with alot of seniority that blow away the numbers on their lie sheet are only setting precedence for metrics to be adjusted further. They do this to either screw the least senior guys or in hopes to gurgle gurgle their leader.

Lately we on the DTV side are seeing jobs booked at a mere 20 minutes - 20 minutes to greet your customer, get inside, figure out how wrongly written the order is, agree to correct it, smartchat with some clueless call center drone, wait for the correction to appear, start the job, work the job, thank your customer, go to the truck and finally close the thing - unless of course it fails to close then another smartchat with WFE support to fix it.
Then get a phone call from your Boss half an hour later demanding to know why you took 90 minutes on a 20 minute job.
Have to hit those fake numbers. Can win a $25 gift card for this month. Get surplussed next month. Good thing about the metrics is that the time has been driven so low for work types, that there is only way to go lower. It would be to change the system to allow time spent to be reported in seconds rather then minutes. We have many work items rated at 2 minutes in our group. My computer doesn't even start up in 2 minutes.
Start stealing gas?
Our area is 300 miles border to border. The Shop sits roughly in the middle. Are they really wanting Techs to drive 150 miles from home to garage, just to drive 150 miles back to where their jobs are? Better not book me any a.m. jobs.
And like the WFH managers, drag your butt to the office/garage everyday. Oh wait, now you need to drive your vehicle and pay for your gas to the garage...and add commute time to your day. This is the stuff ATT loves to do to its people, manageme t and union.
