Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Will we ever have job security again?

AT&T was a good place to work for years, but with this leadership, it looks like a sense of insecurity and fear is created deliberately and this makes me wonder if this ever going to end. Any Thoughts?

Downsizing doesn’t always have to be a formal announcement. How many have seen people leave your work group for whatever reason and not replaced? Toss that on top of the surpluses.

"AT&T WILL ALWAYS EXIST one way or another, with CEO's and cronies. YOUR JOB.... I am sure, NOT......LOL"

I'm sure that many people thought the same about Sears, MCI, GE, and other companies whose executives became arrogant and disdainful of customers and employees alike. Your post, full of contempt for the people who actually get the work done, is driven by the idea that Randall and his cronies are sufficient to generate the billions that feed their obscene salaries. That's my LoL for you.

I came to work at Bellsouth in 1999. We have had the layoff announcement every quarter since. I guess I have had "job security" but the layoffs every quarter are a real pain. Since I only have 20 years service, they will probably get me this year. I am preparing.

Not unless we can go back to the days of being a regulated monopoly with no competition. Life was much simpler then without Google, Netflix, etc. We totally controlled the technology introduced into the system. The only budget issues was how much of a increase the regulatory boards would approve. Worked in a location with a large college and made a lot of money when school started putting all those phone lines in. Vacation schedules were blocked because of the work load during that time frame. Now some 25 year old nerd can develop a application that they will sell to a competitor that enables them to further encroach on our business.

No. Those days are over. Each one of us corresponds to a data point on a spreadsheet. You are nothing but an expense, and a liability to be managed. Excel has ruined more companies since it was rolled out.

Sears is also in the toilet. So there's that. Job security is no longer vogue...neither are good company benefits. Remember to give them 8 and go home. No longer cool to show your loyalty and dedication either.

Verizon offered 44000 early retirement offers. Didn’t lay off that many. Their real lay-offs occurred when they s---ered Frontier to buy a large portion of their local businesses.

Hard to say. In 2018 Verizon laid off 44,000, Toys "R" Us, 31,000, Wells Fargo 26,500 over 3 years, General Motors 14,000.

Before T, I worked at companies with poor benefits. When I came to T, it was so nice. I always felt that could go away and prepared myself. I invested in myself, really. Over the years, I took various courses at the junior colleges near me. What else can you do? You can't control the future, but you can invest in yourself.
