Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Management Employees

Why don't we go on strike? I understand bargained for vs non bargained. What would happen?

The AT&T management work ethic model is based on merit and performance. This means your pay increase and bonus will be determined by where you are in your pay scale for Job Title and your EOY performance on your goals and accomplishments. A system that can often be rigged against a management employee who the company will target as a future surplussed employee based on certain criteria by diminishing their role in the company giving your work to others and leaving you with less goals & accomplishments. This makes you less justifiable to keep on payroll based on performance.

NON-SUPERVISORY "managers" / "management employees" should had organized and formed a union a long time ago. You are the ham between the two slices of bread. Supervisory managers will always be on top of you (in terms of hierarchy), will have more priority and the union represented folks at least have a little bit of leverage and CAN make noise together as one voice.

@1hxq So, what are the job conditions you are striking over? Most the people complaining are FOW or TW, people who don't want to show at work or swipe badges. Starting a union isn't going to make the rules more loose. They will become much stricter. They start firing you for being late, then you will complain about how you work many hours and who cares if you're late. When you are union they will care about all these petty rules.

The union like craft has....has plenty of faults! But, so far I’ve got a job and can stay as long as I like. So I wouldn’t get picky...just get in a union whiner!

Hey I worked with other Managers using CO real estate. Lazy comes in union and management. So does hard work.

Being a outside Mgr who has gone through numerous surpluses I have little sympathy for some of those folks who believe they are clerical types Mgrs with 8 hour jobs. They will pass you to someone else when their breaks or lunches come up or or tell you they are doing you a favor by staying on the line. Complain if you call in late because it is close to the time for them to punch the time clock to leave while making the same salary as I do.

It would never happen because most managers would only think about their immediate situation and not risk losing their employment.

A better solution would be to form a union to more effectively fight for the rights of the workers collectively. But it would have to be an effective, non corrupted union, not a useless pretend union like craft has.

"T Can replace everyone today, and have not impact to rhe businesd, that is the onlt thing this company has achieve to perfection."

This sounds like one of Randall's minions talking. You'd think his minions would at least know how to spell. What a mess! And the premise is even more screwed up than the spelling. It's as if our jobs required no skill or job knowledge at all. The executives think that they can hire anyone off the street and it will be fine. That is simultaneously sad and funny.

I say do your 8 hours a day, collect your check and go home. If you haven't been laid off yet, there is always tomorrow. Stop working so hard when you know there will be no promotion, no raise and no job security. Forget about how we used to think that mattered, that was how we we wired....welcome to the way it is now

"Beat Randy with the tools of technology that he thinks he controls, but in truth, does not understand."

This is a great idea. I think if more people, especially investors knew about the random cuts, the attendant impact on morale, and the lack of direction there would be consequences. On the outside there is very little knowledge of the corporate meltdown. Publicizing it might be very helpful. And, it would be fun to see the response of T's intrepid social media team. I wonder if they could get a solid on Instagram from Cardi B.

"First, one would wonder why you are going on strike. Are you not getting paid or something?"

So strikes only happen over pay? Good to know. Job conditions never provoke strikes? Again, good to know. :-)

President Ronald Reagan fired 11,345 federal air traffic controllers on August 5, 1981. Yes you can be fired. You are an "At-Will" employee, one that can be terminated at any time for any reason, or, for no reason.

Thought you young'uns were all about harnessing the Power of Social Media. If true - do it. There are hundreds of websites in the Tech sector looking for news and scoops. Start leaking these stupid Town Hall videos and transcripts to Gizmodo, or MotherBoard, or FierceCable or any of the other sites focused on Tech and need pages to fill. Heck, send them to financial websites as that is where the real power for change comes from.

At the bottom of every article is the name and email link to it's author. Pick a person whose opinion about T aligns with yours and reach out to them.

At this point, if there was the collective will and leadership. it would be highly effective. In a few years, when AT&T has finished outsourcing middle management to India and Eastern Europe, it won't matter.

They "can", but they won't have to. Most are NOT going to risk their livelihood. There is not going to be a mass-walkout of mgmt employees.
