Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Can someone explain Verizon layoff process?

I am a Verizon business employee in Canada, and last year we have been wacked by more than 50%, many were top performers. Go figure! And I am worried on the next round.

So on what basis do they make the call on who stays and who goes and who has the final call?

All managers are to be given the 60 day WARN and then you get whatever the severance is based on years. Most states are giving 6 month unemplyment at this time. COBRA for 18 months and full cost. Mine for spouse and 1 child is 1800 a month. Cashing out a few non 401k investmments in 2019 so i can qualify for medical subsidy in 2020. Oh and do a few shots, it is nice to be out of there.

No 1. Age. No. 2 high compensation 3. Years of service. 4. Random. All four are against u. Be happy to move on if it happens. Verizon is not what it once was. It is a sinking titanic ship

Yes, lots of bad kissing a--- directors out there, many of them are in the presales function, they are willing to throw people under the bus to save themselves.

There is one more, team player. if you are not a team player or you are a distraction/disruptive to your group than you are not an asset. You hurt the group. Even if you are a good worker, you do more harm than good.

I agree with @XF2suAs-xeg

I would add third case: highly compensate employees. That drove out lot of amazing professionals. Their only flaw is being too long in company.

In my 20 years experience kiss a.. was never a factor, job needs to be done. I think people confuse that with bad attitude. Sometimes just being negative would put you in the line for the next riff. Keep on smiling.

The whole process is called 'head counting', your director would get target number and then he/she would look with/out your manager who is target. If they complain they would be gone as well, I saw that.

Critical department, has always been merit. "Who is an obviously bad performer?" After that, "Who will be the least painful to remove." Perhaps we're lucky? No game playing or protected pet employees.

Yes its on the whim of the Dir. So you are out if he doesn't like you or if you are highly compensated
