Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Life after Verizon

After almost 20 years, I accepted the VSP. Didn’t seriously start looking for another job until about 3 weeks ago. I landed a position making almost 40k more a year. Keep your head up. There is life after Verizon!

I don't know why there are so many haters here. Congrats OP! Your post made me feel more positive about having to look for another job due to INFY transition.

Dec VSPer, band 6, base salary at Vz was 155k+, am now working as a telecom consultant at $100/hr with all the attendant tax benefits, plus fully remote. Only drawback is that I had to buy my own medical civerage, which I believe can be expensed.

Steep price to be paid to shed lazy, bumbling id--ts who have long been barred from making any meaninful decisions anyway =

3 weeks pay for every year of “service”? plus medical?

Investors deserve more due diligence. Kick ‘em to the curb. RIF, RIF, RIF!

So many management and wireless trolls here who have always delighted in so eagerly belittling the role of the men and women, the UNION MEN AND WOMEN, who actually DO THE WORK. and tirelessly toil in all sorts of weather, under unimaginable obstacles (when viewed from the skewed vantage point of a desk in a warm, dry office). It’s no wonder they’re shedding you while retaining their valued, income-producing employees.

It’s just sad that you were rewarded at the end for your laziness and lack of effort.

@klw, here’s the 4-1-1.

You took management because you were tired of doing the actual “WORK”, and just wanted to run the show.

You got an MBA from some no-name diploma mill.

You’ve got 30 years experience in exactly what? Watching people work for a living while you obstructed those efforts?

You are what is wrong with this country. You offer nothing, and wonder why a premium is not forthcoming for your services.

Reality check, you offer ZERO ROI.

Retire. The gravy train has pulled into the station. End of the line. Time to disembark.

Consider yourself lucky for how long the scam was. Run. I tip my hat to you, or any man, who can make a lucrative career off of people who did the work.

Now, go away quietly. Don’t push your luck, dummy.

I ran a whole damn garage.

Now, it’s discovered, I’m actually an id--t.

What sorta future do I have?

Maybe I’ll drive a bus?

I tell skilled union people, who already know what to do, what to do, after I think I have some understanding of what it is that they are doing. It’s all so complicated. I know I’m a phony poser but, for some reason, there’s been a lucrative value placed on that fakery, and I make more than people that actually do the work for a living that keeps the money rolling in.

As long as I heartlessly suspend one of these hardworking folks once in awhile, to show I’m a Kool-ade-drinkin’ team player, I’m golden!

America, what a country!

I'm a 25 year employee who took the VSP and have an off payroll on 3/22. I'm in the northeast in band 6 and was in the above market range.

There is hope out there as I was able to land a position starting in April with a major software company making 10% more than I am currently making with VZ.

Cool. I landed a job making $40k a year less. But I have a ten minute commute and work less than 40 hours a week. I have all the money I'll ever need and am so tired of killing myself for thankless corporate America. PM jobs are super stressful. VSP paid off the house and its easy street for me till retirement in 10 years. Peace out VZW!

I didn’t say 40%, I said 40k. And you can call bs all you want. I signed the offer letter and know what I’m getting. Regardless, that wasn’t the point of this post. It was to inject some positivity into this typically very negative website. I don’t care if you believe me. It’s true and I couldn’t be happier.
