With this I’m not trying to indicate that there will be more buyouts in the near future, but that is definitely the way they are going to deal with a situation where they want to lower the headcount. This proved to be a move that benefited the company, looking from the point of view of the leadership. Whos to say they aren’t gonna implement that move again when the time comes to reduce the headcount in other parts of the company?

Yes but there is more than one recipe. They can offload employees by selling assets as they did with Frontier while unloading much debt. FiOS will be replaced with 5G and will no longer be needed, and it can be sold for example to Comcast. Other assets that can be sold include VES and Media (incl. Yahoo and HuffPost). If those assets cannot be sold, they can be spun off. They did the outsourcing first for 2 reasons: 1) 5G is not yet ready, and 2) A sale would require much more time as it has to go through DOJ and FCC approvals
Outsourcing overseas has not always been successful.
