Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

McFresh Town Hall 2/14

Wow, this dog and pony show is a complete train wreck. What is going on with this company? Will we be paying Kardashian's to "influence" the public to buy our technologies next? Unreal

@2tlv: And then we can SWAT Ninja while he’s streaming but it’s not really the cops it’s Randy and the Johns busting in to floss and give him a free iPhone.

T should sell DTV and buy Fortnite and turn tricky towers into the tricky outsourced call center towers and you can win Uncle Randy skins when you get that chicken dinner.

McLovin who?

When will the Board of Directors execute some fiduciary responsibility and admonish and exit the leadership? Institutions own like 55% of T and will be bringing pressure by voting their shares for their favorite director(s) to start the crucifixions. Something has to break open big time at that level. BTW, everyone has to be exited by 03/29 because T wants to say what improvements - really...stupid things they've done - at the annual meeting.

Sounds like all of these town halls and videos links are about the same. "Don't feel real" or not based in reality.

I hope our leaders are not quietly panicking knowing what they are doing to betting the entire future of the company on moves they are doing right now and through the next year or two.

They are swallowing hard; because they are not sure what they have already done (DTV & TW) is actually going to bear fruit and here they are axing the only part of the company that has actually performed in the past.

I am beginning to suspect, they are all scared $hitless about what they are now in the process of doing and have serious doubts that they will be able to pull the rabbit out of the hat.

If their attempted transition from telco to content media doesn't pan out, then you are really looking at a Comcast/AOL fiasco all over again.

@1sdb - "DJ Jazzy Jeff McFreshPrince opened by saying that ATO was the only organization to hit their numbers last year and we’re still f---ed. How motivating!"

ATO back in 2004-5 proved we could do all the IT work cheaper than any off shore company. They still outsourced to India no matter. Back it was stankey legs that did it. Nothing changes they still want At&t to be nothing but C-suites and off shore companies. That is the only thing that will make it happen.

Arnoldi is useless in my book. Has Arnoldi done anything except say micro-services at town halls?

That obese guy Luke is my AVP and this whole town hall was a load of horseshit. Our team supports the Edge Solutions that he talked about that is supposedly the future of the industry and we got decimated this last surplus. We lost a good 20% of our team. Not even TW or remote workers, but hard-working CZ employees who showed up in the office at least 4 days a week and gave 110%. Funding has been cut on our biggest projects since mid 2018 and we are sc-aping by with a skeleton crew. He sounded so nervous because he knew his whole org will be asking him tomorrow what the heck he was talking about and why he went along with the facade. What a joke this has become.

Saying this was not the last surplus was the only honest thing this blowhard said.

What I took away from it was a bunch of people we have no involvement with have been really sh--ty at their jobs and have destroyed the company’s financials and brand image but somehow we’re all in this together and are supposed to be doing something in our unrelated jobs to fix their mistakes. DJ Jazzy Jeff McFreshPrince opened by saying that ATO was the only organization to hit their numbers last year and we’re still f---ed. How motivating!

Do we have a new profession now? Color ‘psychologist?’ Or an artist, marketing guru or just an id--t further helping to sink the ship? Let’s see how the color wheel pulls us out of the mess. Whoever he was sounded like a total id--t! It was embarrassing!

@mpb they spent time showing how we "hooked up" Cardi B with a phone and wireless service after she complained about TMobile on twitter or something. Painful to watch

I missed this - what was the Cardi B thing? I assume it's the same kind of deal we did with Taylor Swift that nobody remembers or even knew what she was doing to promote the company? That cost, what -$25 million?

These mo--ns think throwing money at celebrities will lead their fans to overpay for wireless and media services.

The whole thing felt fake to me. just another pow wow. I did find that fat guy who looks like Artie Lange more sincere though. The swarthy Indian guy and the obese guy - twice the size of Elfresh - didn't really present anything innovative. It's just something that a modern company would do (that express kiosk thing etc.)

They still don't get it. From RS to JM and his direct reports.

Totally brushed off any questions about layo... er... uh... surpluses. What a morale booster.

Kardi B? Who really cares? Anybody that could be "influenced" by her into purchasing ATT products can just as easily be "influenced" to purchase products from Verizon, Sprint, or back to T-Mobile. Oh, and nice shot of the toilet over her right shoulder. Keepin' it classy I guess.

E-gamers? Again, who really cares? All they want is a low latency pipe to the gaming server. They could care less who supplies it. And 5G, at the frequencies required to support the bandwidth needs, isn't the answer here, PON fiber is. And how many of them are living at home using mommy and daddy's Internet service (school age or older)? What's the burnout rate for gamers? My kids got into it and out of it equally fast in a 24 month spread.

AirGig? Seriously? What's going to happen to the electronics when the power line takes a lightning strike? How many of those relays are going to be fried? There's a reason those high tension power lines have huge circuit breakers on 'em. How p-ss-d are the customers going to be when their power and Internet service is disrupted -again- when the power is shut off on that grid section to replace the AirGig device.

Shoring up the video business? Totally clueless why that line of business is falling apart. Here's one - cord cutters. Look it up, you might learn something not taught in MBA school.

The disruptors eat the old legacy companies for lunch because the find a niche and exploit it. The -only- reason ATT hasn't suffered the same fate as GE is their near monopoly position in wireless spectrum, and to a lesser, but growing extent, fiber Internet. And it took the threat of Google Fiber to get 'em off their collective rear ends to start building a PON network.

If -any- of the legacy markets ATT serves had true competition, ATT would cease to exist.

But Agile, micro-services, and self serve kiosks will save the day.

@fzk. Exactly right. McLovin was brought in to do this dirty work. He is going to cut ATO and will leave with blood on his hands. Arnoldi will come in on her white horse and save the day. She will be CEO once they cut Candy Boy loose. And she is no savior either. This is just one big dog and pony show where the investors, customers and employees are getting screwed. Only winners here are the greedy and stupid execs who have trashed this company.

IN FREE FALL.........

Accepting that Management made a big mistake with the debt-fueled deals for DirecTV and Time Warner, Is not something an id--t would do

The lack of trust requires that management has a mandate to continue repaying debt after reaching the $150 billion target for the end of 2019.

The legacy video distribution market remains in structural decline.

The biggest risk to the investment story at AT&T (T) is not the debt load, but rather that the current management team doesn't use massive free cash flows to pay down debt. The recent sector numbers in the legacy video space continues to warn shareholders of the dangers of this management team to overspend on assets at the market peak.

The problem with AT&T is that the company bought both DirecTV and Time Warner via the addition of substantial debt. AT&T saw debt levels double since prior to the 2014 deal to buy DirecTV due to these large acquisitions and the requirement for massive capital spending and dividend payouts.

The media and telecom giants added the following debt levels from those mergers:

In the process, it doubled down on the video distribution to the cable networks that both get eliminated from the process of consumers cutting the cord and moving to OTT services.

What investors don't want to see is another debt-fueled acquisition as the company realizes that the video content space is too competitive and legacy video distribution is in terminal decline.

The key investor takeaway is the industry MVPD results continue to remind investors how bad the current management team is at acquiring assets.

The last thing investors want is for AT&T to make another horrible acquisition. As the results of the other wireless players highlight, a company focused on its core business is far better than an empire builder

This was a joke. 100% of presubmitted questions were centered around jobs. Jeff seemed insincere ( or simply a liar) in his limited response. Arnoldi was wise to get out of this position. She will be back after Jeff is done doing what he has been asked to do. He will be forced out as his work force will not trust him or want to work for him.
