Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Will AT&T abandon El Segundo because DTV acquisition is failing?

DTV is losing subscribers every quarter now for a few years. What happens to the El Segundo location?

I think NOT, at least not the El Segundo facility itself. It’s one of the 10 locations identified as a “Collaboration Zone” (or hub).

They have been posting jobs there lately, but how is anyone supposed to live there for what AT&T is paying? Only H1Bs will take those jobs and live with 6 roommates. 80k per year and 2 million for a 3 bedroom is hilarious. All so you can work within a stone's throw of the runway at LAX. Not a chance.

I would take uverse any day over satellite. it is all IP based and no ugly satellite any where on my property and no ugly black coaxial cables going up and down the outside of my house. Oh and uverse doesn't go out when it rains.

Buying DTV was stupid and they could of invested that money into making uverse a better product along with internet service. But hey we are a wireless company so we can't pay people to go out and lay fiber. That is barbaric. What a joke.

The sad thing about U-verse is that it’s capable of much much more than Directv like 4K on Fiber, higher capacity DVR like genie 2, more than 8 boxes, more than 6 streams if ATT invested in new equipment and the software. They just don’t care about U-verse even though it was the only video service to add customers lol. But I guess the future is DIrectv Now, while video quality on DNOW is great the interface isn’t a typical tv experience and that home grown android box has a long way to go.

“DTV is far superior to copper Uverse.

I've had DTV for 20 years. Worked as an outside tech-uverse included-since its inception.

UV is not a reliable product.“

Dtv is more reliable than copper uverse but uverse is 1000% better on fiber. With all the fiber laid now and still going in uverse tv should be revamped. It’s already been bought and paid for. Also has a much faster user interface than dtv, doesn’t rely on internet access to use on demand content. And a talk into remote could be built in. Every customer keeps asking for it!!!...hello!!!

I like dtv, I have it, it works but it’s a slow clunker most of the time. It’s only real advantage is it can be installed anywhere.

Make uverse great again 👍

In all seriousness, it is hard to blame DTV people because over half of them bailed within a year of the deal closing.

They are what we call “smart.”

"I hope att loses it's arse on DirectTV. I worked on the Uverse project which was a great product and was laid off after the DTV acquisition. "

Randall is working on fulfilling your dream as we speak. This company is on a path to bankruptcy. It is sad. So many good people have been and will be harmed by the incompetence of "leadership". They are in deep debt and they are clearly flailing for solutions. And Stankey is applying his "industry leading cost structure" magic to HBO as we speak. That will have very predictable effects on the pipeline of shows coming out of HBO. So that revenue stream will diminish too. These guys have no clue.

@XBfXfEP-1kjh, I am sure everyone shares your pain, but it seems that there is denial, and anger on your part. The only responsible fot your happiness is you, There is nothing we can do to change the current course of events in the cesspool called AT&T

Candy man, Skankey legs and the Johns are the responsible party for this disaster. It is unfortunate people snipe at co-workers when many folks in lots of groups are all being tossed like salad. I know the company is all about profit and the shareholder but they also own the reputation of the way emplyees are treated

"Just to let you know these are human beings with families who work at El Segundo and to read the heartless and cruel responses to this thread angers DTV employees such as myself. "

I hope that no one is blaming DTV employees for the ruinous result of AT&T purchasing DTV. That AT&T over paid is completely on RS. That DTV is losing customers faster than they were before the sale is completely on AT&T executive decisions to bungle subscriber care. No one at a level less than executive should be blamed for the failure of AT&T. Our executives are incompetent and greedy. No one should be surprised at what happens when people who are incompetent and greedy steer the ship. No blame should be ever be directed at the troops because AT&T is a very top down authoritarian enterprise. It's all on "leadership" whatever happens. Anyone who tells you otherwise is not your friend. They are "leadership's" friend.

I hope att loses it's arse on DirectTV. I worked on the Uverse project which was a great product and was laid off after the DTV acquisition. Totally destroyed my family, thanks att! I don't wish this kind of loss and pain on anyone other than the powers that be, that take employee livelihood with a grain of salt and only worry about their big fat paychecks.

Just to let you know these are human beings with families who work at El Segundo and to read the heartless and cruel responses to this thread angers DTV employees such as myself. Whatever empathy I had for you all is gone as you're no better than Randall & Co. You should be ashamed.

People in here dumping on DIRECTV NOW (fair game) should also consider that WatchTV is also a complete disaster. But since it's an add-on, you don't hear too much about it.

OMG, failing? That is an understatement, this vanity project going 3 years, still pumping money like it is Christmas, the whole operation is In life support.

Randall still defending the deal on TV, which is not good!!!

potential does not sell well, how about developing a product that people actually want to buy?

Oh, you poor, poor Atlantans. More FUD because one of your kin posted a thread which asks about the viability of your city in the future.

Think about your motives for a second: it’s not like this board is dictating company strategy. Did you really think that posting something like this would make a difference? Of course you didn’t, so why did you do it?

Because you’re scared, and you want to make others scared. Especially people in El Segundo.

They should just surplus Atlanta because that would eliminate retail leadership

that can’t get their people to sell video.

That re-development was to kick out the public and less fortunate homeless from the area. Our executives put up a good front when it comes to helping the less fortunate, but it's the typical dusting, and they couldn't possibly be caught rubbing shoulders with those types of people. Granted, it was scary as c-ap down there sometimes, so safety might be better, but I truly believe it's because they wanted to basically privatize their corner of downtown Dallas, and do the "rich" thing.

DTV - what a big waste of money.... even DirecTV NOW is now losing subs. Mr. Stankey: you committed financial crime by ruining AT&T and so many lives!

Everything will eventually move to Dallas. It’s the only location they are dumping tons of money in to revamp. They invested $100 million in the downtown HQ to “revamp” it while shutting down old HQs in ATL and NJ....
