Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T is top heavy

One of AT&T's many problems is that it has a very large number of completely superfluous executives. There are organizations with 3 CEOs VERTICALLY! And of course Stephenson has 4 CEO direct reports. That's a lot of egos to stroke and a lot of mega salaries to pay. Raise your hand if you thing they could do without so many senior executives. And for bonus points, which executives would you purge?

There are 1552 with AVP in their titles and 3039 Directors in webphone. During the last round of re-org in 2018, our director did not have enough people report to him, so they simply moved some principals from associate directors to create more direct report for him. T is just as efficient as the governments. Nobody is looking out for the good of the company or the country. Only in it for themselves.

My experience had been that Level 3's at one time had authority to run their organizations as they saw fit. If a ruling came down about training, they could delay it because other projects had priority. T has made Level 3's impotent. And the 4's and 5's are incapable of understanding the work of those below 3's. I like to see a Level 4 sit with a 2 and watch how long it takes to renew SSL Certificates or complete some of the silliest tasks.

Level 3 and above need to be GUTTED. There are so many level 3s with no directs. And plenty of level 4 and 5s that are a complete waste.

And so many level 3s and 4s are so GROSSLY INCOMPETENT. In my 15 career at T, I have maybe had 2 level 3 that we’re good and the rest were trash. Level 4s even worse. I witnessed a level 2 colleague get promoted to level 3 and then level 4 within the span of 2 years. She was so incompetent and was bleeding people from her group- no one wanted to work for her! But AT&T never does a damn thing about these abusive and incompetent level 3 and 4 managers. Somehow they survive layoff after layoff and the real technical talent gets cut. Unbelievable.

It was written: "Level 3 and 4 employees need to be laid off en masse. They don't do anything!"

The real do nothings are not directors and AVPs (3 and 4). Think of the level 5 and 6 goobers who just collect enormous salaries and have the vaguest of notions of what we do as a company. They tend to have zero technical knowledge and yet they think they can decide the direction AT&T should go in.

Yes they have been that way for years. Go look through phone and you will find directors with no one under them.

It's a joke.

And why is there no ethnic diversity at the top? I’m very shocked that minorities are so quiet about that.

Has anyone ever worked somewhere like AT&T where there are 3 CEOs stacked VERTICALLY? A CEO reporting to a CEO reporting to a CEO. The executives at AT&T are shameless. That would be considered farcical at any normal corporation but in Stephenson's topsy turvy world . . .

The United States only has ONE President and ONE VP at a time. And that's for a country of over 300M. It always baffled me how many silos / sandboxes / fiefdoms there are that have their own tower structure. Really? I've had a couple of very good and capable area managers that should have always been allowed much more decision making / discretion at their level.
