Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

When will the dividend become a burden?

I understand that the company takes pride in a secure and steady dividend, but it’s been a while now that the dividend doesn't reflect the true statement that the company is in. While things are not alarming at this moment, due to decent cash flow at the company, I’m wondering what is going to happen when the enormous debt start catching up to the company and the mature debt needs to be paid.

They'll keep raising the dividend until it's financially impossible to do so & remain solvent. Raising the dividend is how Randy keeps collecting his ~$30m compensation package despite all his bad strategic decisions. Shareholders are happy, so the Board doesn't care, so Randy and his buddies keep their jobs - and the multi-generational wealth keeps growing deeper for all of them.

I think the annual increase in the dividend would stop and then, that would be a signal concerning the dividend. There would be other tale-tale signs too, like AT&T terminating retiree health benefits and so forth.

Right now, I see fiber being deployed, 5G being deployed, dividends being paid, retiree health benefits being paid, and debt being paid. Their big problem is in successfully jettisoning the landline telephony business. They got to get rid of that before it cost more to provide than it brings in.

A lot depends on the economy, if things stay the way they are , possibly the dividen will continue, but it there's a downturn forget it the debt load will overload most of the icome stream. And during a recession first thing to go is luxuris like HbO and it's services so that revenue will dry up faster than anything.
