Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Business Solutions

Why do we never see the bus ops groups included in layoffs? The .org is huge with many bs titles, directors with very few direct reports. Their org structure seems very different than other orgs I have seen at att. Maybe they are revenue generating? Hate to see anyone get laid off but it seems same orgs over and over.

OP has a good point. I am in Business services, last year friends of mine in Mobility got hit two or three times. I did not hear about any cuts in Business devices. they probably happened but checks of various people said they have not heard of any. I am wondering if this year will be different. we ended up last year with cuts in some areas of business services (at least I heard of them)

· Mobility provides nationwide wireless service and equipment.

· Entertainment Group provides video, including over-the-top (OTT) services, broadband and voice communications services primarily to residential customers. This segment also sells advertising on DIRECTV and U-verse distribution platforms.

· Business Wireline provides advanced IP-based services, as well as traditional voice and data services to business customers.

Revenues Segment contribution (both in millions) quarter ending Sept 30, 2018

Wireless $17,938 $5,603

Entertainment Group $11,589 $1,104

Business Wireline $ 6,703 $1,475

The cuts will be, well anywhere where there is idle force, but with the performance of the Entertainment Group, that group will be under scrutiny. And I have a feeling that the bad sentiment we see on this board from certain posters is disproportionately coming from people employed by that group.

I think Time Warner/Warner Media is still under the firewall until that appeal is decided.

Warner Media $8,204 $2,528

T should have a new quarterly report out at the end of the month.

Perhaps the orgs you see targeted over and over are the ones the company will eventually do away with? Perhaps they are not revenue generating? Who knows? Your guess is as good as mine. All I know is the layoffs are real.
