I worked for AT&T for 15 years and I have to say that the managers in Dallas are truly some of the worst micro managers in the entire business world. They literally have no life outside of the office (probably due to the fact that the city of Dallas s---s and Texas is so hot and flat that there is nothing to do for fun). They love to make busy work and figure if you aren’t in the office with them so that they can make you miserable, they aren’t happy. Hence this BS around VPN usage. What a joke. Why don’t you do some research and see if people who WFH are more productive (I’ll give you the answer - they are!)

@upa: Nailed it! In order to be placed in a supervisory role within Tech Dev, candidates must first undergo surgical procedures to remove their spines and attach their nose firmly between their bosses a-- cheek. I have never worked with such a soulless group of people. Mindless repetition of leadership catchphrases and shooting down any idea that remotely challenges the latest directive.
@1rnz not all WFH people produce M&Ps. And yes even from a dirty window in a home office one can see how bad the business is.
WFH people are more productive, but they are producing the wrong thing. We dont want any more of your M&P docs. We need actual business results. But you can't see how bad the business is doing from your home office.

Total YES mentality, do not think, makes the management look bad
Lots of bad ideas driven by cost, not ingenuity or innovation
The management in Dallas doesn't care about anyone but themselves, haven't you learned that by now
