Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Offshore

It is a shame. Saving money by going offshore for jobs. Check out Motherboard article this week, someone leaked out an email.

What happened to keep the jobs here? Upper management was in Philippines and India this month. Gee, wonder why... more jobs to be lost.

We all know it is not "if" but when our turn will come.

Off shoring is Corporate greed....A regressive shift in the ethos of the elites who run major corporations. These executives believe that what they think and do is what's best, and everyone else should get out of their way. This has led them to adopt a thoroughly unethical code of social irresponsibility, unilaterally decreeing through a hokey doctrine called "shareholder hegemony" (hegemony asserts that corporations exist strictly to benefit shareholders — i.e., maximize profits no matter what this costs everybody and everything else). A belief that they and their corporate entities owe nothing to the country and or the employees who have helped them grow and supported them,,, The victims are the middle class Americans losing their jobs daily....

Sending work off shore is a decision not a requirement. Good profits could still be made in this country if there was good, competent management with a smart business strategy, not what we see now.

This is not about making good profits, it is about maximizing short term profits at the expense of the workers and the long term viability of the business.

Blaming the union is bogus, are people not entitled to living wages? Are we to become Walmart, with pay and benefits so low so the government provides food stamps and uses taxpayer money to subsidize the company profits? I call that a type of corporate welfare.

I have no idea how many employees are in a union but I wish I was.

Getting organized is what caused the offshoring in the first place

We need to get organized, and start making noise about the offshoring of American jobs. This is not just an AT&T problem, but a pervasive problem within high tech.

It’s cheaper than hiring American workers.
