Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Syracuse Office Closure & Impending aftermath

Syracuse, NY announced an office closure on 1/7/19. If any of the other offices are operating the way that office has let this be a warning. Collusion between Union reps and AT&T management - will not save you your job. Sneaking and snitching on your colleagues to management - will not save you your job. Spreading vicious rumors about your colleagues-will not save you your job. Allowing management to blatantly disrespect and belittle you for decades - will not save you your job. Playing the blame game between your colleagues- will not save you your job. Complaining about new hires or transfers into your office - will not save you your job. Not mobilizing or mobilizing MINIMALLY and INEFFECTIVELY for DECADES - will not save you your job. And finally walking around bitter and upset with COWORKERS over the decisions of HIGHER UPS to close your office - WILL NOT SAVE YOU YOUR JOB.

What MIGHT save you your job or rather position you for a new position - is equipping yourself with the knowledge and skills to complete your work or other work outside of AT&T. And understanding that company loyalty cannot pay your bills when the company has decided to dissolve your relationship. That is all.

The 4 + 4 days are gone. If you are lucky one might get a buy out based what CWA contract you are under.

Maybe they'll offer a 4+4 that's what I got there was a lot of talk during 2007 that's when I retired about layoffs and then at the very end they offered that and I got 25 years so I got lucky.

First of all, this closing was already posted. Second, the reason for the closing was within the linked article, and the reason was that the lease on the rented office space expired.

AT&T is swimming in real estate, both owned and leased. And a fair amount of that real estate is quite a bit less than full occupancy. And they have too many itty-bitty offices. Syracuse only had 150 reps. There is no economy of scale in miniature offices.

I don't know what the industry standard is, but I imagine that an office should have at least 1000 personal to be economically reasonable (searching for the word).

According to the article, an offer to follow the work was extended. Additionally, the affected employees would enjoy an enhanced status in the internal staffing system for other jobs within the company.
