I'm afraid this round is going to be truly huge. Usually we have to search for any media coverage of AT&T layoffs after they happen and are lucky if we can see one or two places cover it.
This time, it's all over the news ahead of time. Which can only mean that its scope is making it suddenly interesting enough to cover.
This is making me more and more nervous... I really hope we'll know exactly what's happening soon.

Where is the ‘Vice’ email referred to? I saw the mcelvresj one but haven’t seen anything else.
The leaking of the letter is a good indication that we may be hitting crisis point. We need to have a real discussion about the number of H1b visas in tech. This is not just an AT&T problem, so any coverage in the media is a good thing.
The Vice article has more info than McElfresh announcement. Some VP is p-ss-d off about their team being gutted for c-appy reasons and blatant lies and leaked.
The McElfresh email was ‘leaked’. I think the news coverage is just based on that. Glad to see it in the news, but think the media is trying to hype it up.
I think they are very serious about layoffs too. I also think they will increase in size as well. We were told, in OSP engineering, that they were looking to rely on a many more contractors, which I do now, and the AT&T engineers who stay would be more like contract administrators. That would save a lot of money for the company but the pay is much lower now, but also so much less stress. That may be why they want just 10 collaboration zones. The AT&T people in the zones by be working more like contract administrators...at least for the OSP engineers and supervisors. The groups I was in (OSP engineering) were kind of told that a couple of years ago.
I was able to get out of cult that is called AT&T, but was there many years. In the past if a complete internal email was posted on social media, it would be followed with a company wide blast that reminds everyone of COBC, along with a video from Randall or a lesser being, regarding social media & COBC, that you were required to watch & it was tracked so they made sure it was watched. If the post was bad enough, there would also be a mandatory LSO class. I was like ‘oh no’ when I saw the internal email on here- now it’s been picked up by many news outlets.
So has that fire been started and if not-
Keep it in the media! Let the truth set you free. AzT&T takes advantage of cudtomers, employees, legal loopholes and on and on. Let everyone know exactly what’s going on .
This round and the ones to follow will be significant. They definitely will not be the usual layoff below the radar numbers.
Looks like this downsizing won't go quietly into that good night and my opinion is that the more that know, the larger the backlash. Both customers and employees alike have had enough of the toxic t and the incompetant management supposedly leading it. Can you say GE, Sears, Kmart?
This is the first time in recent memory that letters like the one Jeff drafted were sent out. The leaking of that letter to the media is what prompted the coverage. I don’t believe that (the news coverage) is itself an indication of how widespread and deep the cuts will be, but the letter is a good indication in my opinion that they will be significant.
