I have 21 years coming up on 22. I am a construction splicer. The writing is on the walls for a lot of people. Once all the fibers up it doesn’t take much to maintain. So the writing is on the wall for a lot of us. It is the nature of the beast. Most guys putting this fiber up are working themselves out of a job!

Exactly my point if you thought tip & ring was a job for life you’re a fool. Name another company besides the phone company where this would be a relevant skill for top dollar. You can bit** and moan all you want but times are changing, you can either take advantage now and prepare or be prepared to clear tables rookie.
How a splicer is going to prepare? He or she can't,....job will be giving to contracting companies, at low wage..that is reality.
Find another line of business for the love of God
22 years and you’re still on the bubble. You still have time to prepare make sure you take advantage of the tuition aid and even PLE to make yourself marketable outside AT&T. 2020 is more like 2026 for wireline. In the meantime be prepared to do everything from the f1 to IW and every service we offer.
Yes you are correct to a point! I mean there is enough work available for years and years especially in Construction. Now if the Company chooses not to do it or contracts it out shame on them!! ie all these pole transfers ,copper work , removal work . What about placing and splicing fiber in outlying areas? We could have placed and spliced fiber in our whole 21 states BUT no they blew ALL the money with Tmobile debacle and Time Warner etc..DirecTV etc. what a joke ..and these people continue to collect a check ?? fattening their wallets and parachuting outta here with phat cash meanwhile the rest of us are stuck with surpluses every 3 months .Ivory tower boys have destroyed this place .
