No matter the outcome of these layoffs if you worked hard over the years walk out of here with your head up high. Folks have been bashing each other for the last 2 weeks on this board over their differences of opinion. Not worth it. Get your Resume updated, talk to friends, family & neighbors and let them know you might need a job in the next 3 months. A couple of friends I know told me getting fired was the best thing that ever happened to them as they exceeded their own expectations in their next career- money and/or job satisfaction. This company cannot even handle a layoff right. The media says huge layoffs are coming, the company spokesman says they are hiring. Verizon offered a generous severance package 2 months ago (60 weeks) and if followed this media circus could have been avoided with large numbers of employees voluntarily leaving in my opinion. The media touted Verizon's layoffs as a voluntary severance (including CNN). We have had mud slung at us for the last 48 hours in the media and rightfully so. The ATO letter that leaked was pitiful. It says nothing from the newly promoted ATO President and probably wasted 30 days of productivity as we are all now waiting for the ball to drop. AT&T has about a 130 year history that at one time was based on Dignity, Honesty and Integrity- those days are long gone...................................

It's not Rajeshs's fault he's willing to work harder for less money. 800 million people in India live on less than $2.00 a day. For him it's stepping into the middle class. If you can feed 10 Indian families for the price of one overpaid AT&T guy, something is going right in the world.

I think we, as American IT professionals need to have a come to Jesus moment. What is going on at AT&T, is happening everywhere.
I see more and more employee layoffs YET more and more “offshore” teams and contractors in webphone.
This is a very dirty business and until there is some serious reform at the governmental level, these abuses will continue and American IT professionals will continue to get screwed.
Time to think about another line of work. No more skills and advanced training in IT!! It’s a race to the fricking bottom with Rajesh in Bangalore the winner at $4.23 an hour.
It does seem odd these layoffs are being handled so poorly. It's not like AT&T hasn't had a lot of practice over the last few years. Indeed, it should be their core competency by now.

I think this is some of the best advice given lately. I was laid off last September, but am 59 and recieved the lump sum, and if I were younger I would go back to school and learn a marketable skill. I do contract work, what I did at AT&T, about 3/4 time and love it. I just don't want to go to school to learn a skill at this point in my life. But if you are younger and won't receive a pension I would take the severance pay and go to a community college and get relevant skills.
Those 2020 video's we were forced to watch, and they were required in my group and were also closely monitored, were useless. I probably watched over 300 and I did not attain 1 skill. But best of luck and walk out with your head up high (like the OP said). Layoffs are numbers and if you are chosen there probably was nothing you could do about it. I told my 2nd level to lay me off because I was ready and I also didn't want one of the other engineers, who did not have enough time for a pension, to save at least 1 job. I think most of us older managers should do this. They give a good pension if you have 30 years or so you should be fine and the young should be kept. This is just my opinion though. I personally think that the younger ones should use AT&T to pay for their "new" skill at a college and get out of AT&T so you can leave on your terms.
If you are younger, say 50 and under, go get a marketable skill. Few skills transfer from AT&T. Best of luck to you all.
I was surplused in 2017, After 10 years as an ST. I had background in military and other IT and Telecom firms. I will be honest the money and benefits were great. My coworkers and Supervisors were mostly good people. But, AT&T as a company was extremely disappointing. I blame the leadership at the top to all the way to 2nd level. I wo t say it was easy finding another Good job, but after 2 years and 2 poor jobs, I am finally in a good role that has a future and with a great company. My advice to all of the good people at AT&T, if you go, get skills now or in the future that are in demand in many areas. Hopefully you saved some money or Plan B to get you thru. Just wait until that beast is off your back...you will be happier than you can imagine. GOOD LUCK!
Bravo to the OP. Nice to see professional and class in the wake of this cluster! I so agree with you on the pathetic email sent to the ATO groups. Hopefully Jeff is also on the list . Best to all and do stand tall and take care of you, forget AT&at.
