The company wants to be at roughly 100k employees. Research articles (google, fortune) from Randal and Donovan talking about all the new training and retooling AT&T is doing and there you will find the 95-100k employee company size target for 2020. Currently AT&T is about 250k. Do the math. 2 years. 150k jobs lost. You can also do the math on the collaboration locations and how many employees they can handle, plus international... 7-8k per location.
The company wants data scientists and software/app developers. Beyond that, not much is needed. Get the traditional AT&T model out of your heads and you’ll accept the coming change better.
Concerned about outside plant and operations for them? Don’t need many techs to install internet when devices are drop shipped to customers, contractors and vendors install already on our network... change is here.
And if you think only work from home employees are affected, you’re missing the target. If your work location isn’t a collaboration zone, you’re a target. And let go of your day to day operations and how you need to be where you are to do your job... your job isn’t needed (reread above).
