Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Why would they spend more when they can spend less?

I can’t say that I’m even a bit surprised by the announced round of layoffs. Maybe it’s harsh to speak in this manner, given that people's lives and the lives of their families are at stake, but for corporate America, it hasn't been about people's lives for a long time. At this point, it’s just about the numbers. They don’t care and the only question they are asking themselves is: Why spend more when we could spend less? Outsourcing, Layoffs, Doubling the workload, replacing more expensive labor with cheaper… etc, they're all just tools in their ruthless game of cutting costs, and I’m afraid we all have to adapt to that game. AT&T has a huge debt and at this point saving every dollar counts. Quality of work, dedication, experience, are not values that are recognised anymore. I’m afraid there is more to come. Good luck to you all

Jack of all trades and master of none. Dsl then Uverse then fiber, can’t even decide as to a release to the masses on the fiber build. It’s not being advertised they way it should for a reason. They would need a work force. Probably couldn’t keep up with the demand for installation.

With the recent wave of layoffs and all the government incentives the stock price went from $42 to $28. So obviously Randall thinks more layoffs and more government money will help.

If it's business, then why the guessing game? CEOs talk about losing sleep at night, welcome to the club! Just post definitive guidelines for the company and quit toying with your employees. At least upper management knows they have either a job in the morning or a couple million $ parachute to leave.

@vot, I’d like to say you might be right, and I’m not saying you’re wrong but you posted this same jargon about a week ago, so I have to ask.....Where’s The Beef?

If you have proof, or a Google site to refer us too, please put it out there!! We’re waiting

@dok, I have your answer by way of "The Peter Principal." This is not just a saying, but a real person.

Peter Principal:

The Peter Principal is a concept in management developed by Laurence J. Peter, which observés that people in a hierarchy tend to rise to their "level of incompetence." In other words, employees are promoted based on their success in previous jobs until they reach a level at which they are no longer competent.

So there you have it....not exactly a rosy forecast, huh?

Stephenson is a bean counter, that's how he got to where he is. He and the other C suite boys (and they're all boys) have robbed the company blind with dividends and share buybacks while borrowing to do it.

2014 through 2017 T didn't make enough Free Cash Flow to pay dividends, they borrowed. They hid most of it with creative accounting. Unfortunately, not the only corporation playing this game.

Yeah you have to wonder how a colorless dunce like Randall Stephenson got where he is and stays there.

The CEO continues to receive an obscene paycheck, all while pushing AT&T into over $180 Billion of debt (Not To Mention How He Flubbed The T-Mobile Acquisition, Costing AT&T Billions In Penalties). Not sure this company was ever about the employees/families. It's always been about the bottom line. They perpetually let there employees know that layoffs are impending.
