Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Haven't been on a campus in about a year. No meetings at office unless I've arranged them. WFH mostly the past 7-10 years. No local team in majority of that time. Supervisor claims to have heard nothing about latest focus on asses in seats policy. Very uneven rumours apparently. What's the point of going in now? Will let this forum know at the end of the month.

I've been full time WFH for 20 years. and they've gotten more than their moneysworth out of me. My org hasnt yet been notified of layoff or consolidation (if that's what you want to call it), but I'm not going to start commuting 2 1/2 hours a day to check into a building where there's nobody I ever deal with in the name of collaboration (WTF?). I made that clear to my manager yesterday. When it eventually rolls this way, I'm going to volunteer. If they're not taking volunteers, they can pick me to go if my attitude's a problem. Fortunately I'm at a point in life at which I don't need the money bad enough to take any more $hit from these clowns.

Can someone please explain what is the benefit of dragging us all back into an office? For 8 years I have been full time remote. Long days, hard work, always accessible. Now I am in an office doing the same thing I've done for 8 years at home. I see nor talk to anyone. My manager doesn't even know where I am sitting. There are no meetings for me to attend. My job hasn't changed. I am exhausted & stressed from commuting, gas & tolls are adding up, wear & tear on my car. My co workers are in the same position in other offices. Tempers are flaring, morale is low. What is the purpose of this, to micro manage all of us?

Damn! The Alpharetta office was so full today - I was surprised. I have never seen such attendance since I started working full time in office 5 years ago.

Go to the office a few days a week as you should have been doing all along. Provisions remain in place for the occasional from home remote. I dont understand the big deal other than those that were full time telecommute. People should be more concerned about their location volume under the same leader for hub than this right now. The surplus will target those very remote.

@cdn However how would a home-based worker know that he needs to report to an office, unless they have been informed such. Does not make sense for the company to do whatever/whenever in those cases. The FOW or the flex office worker, who did not report to any office for a while might be the one who has an office location even. This all sounds pretty messed up.

You have to be a Boomer still living in the 80s. The company can do whatever it wants to whoever, whenever. "Agreements" mean nothing.

Except that the company has to notify you that they are rescinding the agreement if you are a home based worker. If you are a flex based worker, they can easily say the definition in the org of a flex based worker is being in the office 4 days a week.
