Even more ways to get rid of employees

Elimination of WFH is only one tactic they're employing. Last Friday there was a call informing a number of employees in ATL their jobs are moving to LA. With kids in school, working spouses, etc. you know that only about 20% will end up making the trip. In some orgs the movement to LA has been going on for more than a year now, so they know full well how low the take rate for forced relo is.

Another sneaky but efficient way to get rid of a bunch of employees without paying severance and getting bad rep. AT&T will go as low as it can just to save a few bucks.

I know multiple friends who have made the move, uprooted family, kids, some even with no re-loc pay only to be laid off a couple years down the road.....

Even if you are in a collaboration zone, and are in Tech Dev and probably other areas of ATO, if your clients are in the same collaboration zone also, you are at risk for this play by management.

first moves to calf and texas resulting in a large % of those employees that relocated being let go. just because you agree to relocate doesn't mean you'll have a job a month after. this place is a joke. be smart people.

A lot of people have working spouses, kids in school, friends and ties to the community they live in. Also, I don't think most people would consider moving from ATL to LA a step up. The people affected by these random relo decisions are not taking home anywhere near the kind of money that the people making them are.

You might not be a TROLL, but you just might be an A$$HOLE.

@irl, also - that's what this site is for. Venting and information. If you are happy and content, optimistic about whatever 'surprise' T throws at you, then you don't need to be here.

My understanding is they can either move to LA, find another job in the company (good luck with that), or take the package.

I believe this is the third time they've done this without warning.

@irl ATL is a collaboration zone so even if those people were following the company line exactly, how would they have known before now? Maybe some of those same people recently moved TO Atlanta because they knew it was a collaboration zone. What do you say to them? "Too bad, so sad?"

OMG people if the move has been going on for a year you should have been expecting this. We have been informed for years about the 2020 downsize and consolidations. Don't blame the Company if you choose not to or unable to relocate. This is life expect the unexpected and deal with it. Stop whining. AT&T does not owe you anything. There are no guarantees in life. Be thankful for what you have. Not a TROLL
