That's why the US government loves their wars.
it's a SIGN of a good economy when so many are willing to take a buyout... it's not that it is good for the economy.
War is good for the economy- it puts lots of people to work building and fighting, unemployment plummets, lots of wages flood into the market. It's bad for people, but it really stimulates the economy.

Well, they are.
What's good for wall street and for corporate health is not always good for the individual employee. In fact, it almost never is.
The company needs to free up cash to prepare for the next round(s) of innovation. What better and more fair way than to invite interested employees to "retire" early? And on very generous terms?
They COULD have just cut people loose, ya know.
The CNN story does make a good point, which is that the job market is SO job-seeker friendly, those who want or need to continue their careers stand a pretty good chance of being able to do so. Wait until the next recession takes hold in 2019-20 (and yes, it has already begun) - THAT is not a market you want to be released into.
Layoffs always s---, but in this case these were self-chosen "layoffs" and the terms were quite generous.
