In our team, 3 left, backfill 5. Does it make sense?

Net Ops, Engineers in my group of 20. 7 applied, 7 accepted. 4 off Dec. 28th, 3 off March 22nd. Backfill 3 of the 7. Looks like they wanted about 20% gone. We were a little surprised they was going to fill some of the slots. The 3 not being released till March 22nd, are being kept to train their replacements.
In my area, yes or no was based on tenure. In Operations you were required to have at least 15 years to be accepted. The phone team required 10 years in order to be approved. The business really determined the release dates. No one in my .org received a December off payroll date
We drew straws.
Short straws were left behind.
12/28 maybe folks that are known to stir the pot (fmla's, loa's), March folks that are in good standing but maybe older, HCE (mangers, directors), June folks not to old and not trouble makers. There will be exceptions to the rule, but my guess?
I can speak to my personal situation- there was concern I couldn't adequately train my replacement in the limited business days left in the year. My manager requested I be retained until June- that was denied, but they compromised and made my last day in March. There are 2 others on my team that are leaving Dec 28, so it was completely individual case basis.
It was the same method used for INfosys. Put names in a hat, and pull them out.
Get over it it's done if you didn't get your date oh well
The criteria was up to the highest levels of executive leadership pal. Now everyone needs to refocus on finishing the quarter. And the beatings will continue until morale improves.
