Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T Outsourcing / Offshoring

The tax cuts need to be given to corporations who keep the work and employees in the U.S....not who continue outsourcing....Too many companies like AT&T are putting there own spin on outsourcing.....Set up shop in India and hire technical folks in India and put them on the AT&T payroll but pay them a lot less and do not offer them pensions (ah yes they fell by the wayside in 2016). Once done, and they have been adequately trained by their US colleagues, turn around and start laying of the U.S. technical employees as they are just a commodity.....It is such a pleasure to work with our new India partners who are also unfortunately not available after 10:00am CST when their day ends....We get approximately 3 hours collaboration time with them daily...…..

Collaboration is just another layer of lipstick on the pig that T has become.

@Wu15tTN-4log "collaboration" is a line of BS. All of us that have been forced back haven't had a single meeting-there has been zero collaboration. When productivity sinks, maybe management will get the hint. No one cares anymore.....it's just a paycheck.

India folks are remote. But tech dev expects you in the office EVERY DAY. Gotta have butts in seats. To “collaborate.”

They pay the developers over there a whooping $4.32 an hour. Yes, that’s correct, $4.32 an hour. I saw it on a project plan a few months ago. Thar’s Insulting to us and the foreign workers.

It's best for the owner to delete the racist comments off this board. Hopefully ATT will be able to surplus the racists and keep the decent employees.

Most of the outsourcing happens because someone's being benefited. It's not unusual that the folks who are hiring contract IT resources to get a percentage kicked back. The fault does not lie with the workers, it's the people that hire them. They exist, they are young, they can work, whether it is useful or not that's another matter, if it is not the US companies that hire them it will be someone else.

Look at history, it was Europeans that went searching for India and colonized them, they made money off them then and they do so now. .

Reg. Indian food and stink, when most of W N & E Europeans were known as the barbaric hordes by the "civilized Romans", salt , spices and silks were luxury. Some Europeans ( despite coming to the new world) still retained that cave dweller mindset and like their food pretty much raw, reeking of nothing but fresh blood.

This goal of becoming a brand with everything outsourced. It is the Apple model. They outsource manufacturing of all their iPhones. Can you imagine if ATT outsourced its cell towers and base station equipment? Or used a third party to make its phone switches?

to @Wu15tTN-1hjp I agree with you 100%. Combine that with a cesspool of germs and the office environment is nauseating.

most of you are very luicky, your only interaction with them it is over the phone, but in my case I work with them in the same office, and I can say their body odour is as reviled as it is ubiquitous.

The solution to the language barrier is to outsource more to India.

The value stream will be all of Tech Dev if the Fox's watching the hen house have their way.

Cutting cost is the goal, expect a full outsourcing in every area of the company

Goal is a brand - outsource the work, count the money, there is no innovation, only how to find a way to outsource offshore.

New packages available in January, take the package

Nothing against these folks, in India. But I find myself repeating the same goddamn thing over and over. What should have been a 4 minute chat takes 15. It really, really s---s. Thanks Randall!

It is impossible to collaborate with people when you can’t understand a dam word of what they say.

"Taxes have to levied fairly ..."

That is so ignorant and detached from reality there is no point in adding more comment.

"Tax avoidance through offshore tax loopholes is a significant reason why corporations, which paid one-third of federal revenues 60 years ago, now pay one-tenth of federal revenues."

Yes, it looks like the communist/fascists/sheep/paternalists/Venezuelans/Russians/rude clerk at the Safeway/people I don't like...are at it again. Did I miss anyone?

SMHIA at the idiocy of this post. Tax cuts are not given. only communists/fascists (yeah redundant) who have no clue to the US Constitution thinks. so. Taxes have to levied fairly (yes politicians subsidize their preferred businesses/.industries, i oppose those subsidies). Tax cuts are what the paternal government allows us sheep to keep out of our earned income. Companies for tax purposes are people. Too many communistic thinking occurs on this board. You want that kind of action in your company try living in Venezuela or Russia for a while.

I concur with the prior post . Current experience with working with AT&T India technical folks (SE & Developers) on a recent project.

1) The time difference with the United States is the worst possible. When we are leaving they have not even started their day....Any mtgs have to take place between 6:00am and 11:00am CST. I have been on calls where the Developer in India who has actually stayed on for a US afternoon call can be heard actually snoring on the other end of the phone as they have been up for 17 hours. On another call a worker who has obviously left the office and returned home to take a call are bathing their kids during a reqts review....

2) Indian culture is very verbal and unfortunately there is still some times a large language barrier on a phone call and constantly having to revisit the same issue..over and over and over again...Then folks on the call start getting frustrated having to repeat the same thing again...Couple this with the time difference and right there you have a major challenge on your hands.

3) Working remotely is a Pandora’s box of potential problems....AT&T continues to revere the value of collaboration but this does not apply to all.....mix working remotely with time zone differences, add some cultural differences and you can see how outsourcing goes from helping to eating up all of a projects available time, energy and budget quickly....and the quality of the code is another story all together....We have experienced this with IBM, Tech Mahindra etc. etc. I am not sure why AT&T thinks things will work out any differently by hiring folks in India to work in India as AT&T employees?
