AT&T faces worker exodus

Reality is that Cutting many more positions is necessary to save money to invest in the new technology of the future there are possible long-term costs to shedding so many experienced workers in one swoop, especially if the switch to full streaming stalls, the cutbacks could leave AT&T without the vital expertise it needs. Even the most skilled white-collar managers, and union members need to spend less and be prepared to change jobs or locations to stay employed

I 100% agree that AT&T does not pay you what you are worth. I had 5 discussions with my ever-revolving door of managers about getting paid what I knew I was worth. It got me absolutely nowhere. Finally I was recruited to join a well established company and given a 35% pay increase. What’s amazing is that I now have less responsibility and I’m not required to spend hours and hours putting together materials for useless operations reviews.

Do yourselves a favor and find a company that treats you with respect and pays you what you are worth. I spent 15 years at T and I couldn’t be happier now that I’ve moved on.

Younger generation has learned from the false promises of a stable career and risk-free retirement. Why burn yourself out knowing that the current surplus only leaves you with the added busywork of your former coworkers?

You must be one of them management trolls, -idq. The younger generation is known for having a higher sense of entitlement and weak work ethic compared to older generations.

Wise companies, which AT&T is NOT, seek to keep proven experienced employees.

Word has gotten out what a sh--y place to work this now is, don't hold your breath waiting for your 'young hungry workers' to apply.

This is a reality. The fact that the company does not care speaks volumes. Those who are low skill or high seniority ( many are both..) of course choose to ride it out,

No one worries about worker exoduses. There are younger hungry workers with low expectations, no sense of entitlement, and a desire to prove themselves ready to take those jobs

This post was copied and pasted from an AP article about the coming layoffs in the automotive industry in Detroit. The name AT&T was cleverly inserted. This is pure trolling.

AT&T is actually notorious for giving 1-2% raises year after year with no promotions even as an employee’s responsibilities increase and productivity skyrockets. I loved the work I was doing but finally had to leave as offers poured in for $80k to $100k more than I was currently making. They may want to compete as a technology and entertainment company but that will never occur successfully without the right talent. Good talent just can’t afford to stay at AT&T.

This company has no loyalty to its workers at all. It is extremely foolish to go to all the effort of retraining and moving for a company that treats its workers like this one does. Randall's wet dream is to have no American workers, only contractors and overseas tech support reading off a script in a language they barely speak themselves.

We have a strong economy with plenty of jobs right now. It is in everybody's best interest to start looking for a better employer than this place.

And when you face layoffs every month, the experienced people with options leave on their own.

Very good post. The problem is that even if you move, you can be shortly required to move AGAIN to maintain employment. You cannot count on the position that you are moving to, to have any duration. I have seen it time and time again. If that is the way you want to live, great. But as for me and myself, I will not move for this company. They leave many high and dry.
