Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

20+ Years Only Going

Talked to my director this morning. Apparently the word is that if you have less than 20 years with the company your not going anywhere.

In my IT org we have been told denials were not allowed. Take rate was high and they have requested Mar and Jun off dates. Requested being the key word here. We shall all find out on 12/10.

It was offered to 44,000 people. No more, no less. 44,000 people didn't accept that offer.

“"Our VP shared the number our team needed off the payroll (21) and said more than double applied" They only offered it to so many people. Impossible to DOUBLE a number if it was only offered to a select group of people. Stop trolling.”

I think some people just can’t understand others.

Everyone was offered in most groups everyone.

Their group needed 21 people off payroll and 42 applied for it. Their group is obviously bigger than 21 and bigger than 42 also how much bigger I didn’t see.

The director in the other group and VP may think they can’t survive with those cuts. Until it is all sorted out we don’t know how it will go though as the 42 might go on a staggered exit dates or just 21. Sadly the VP might know for a fact that c is going to happen and their svp or someone else just needs to change the facts on them.

Pretty clear that this means in the group, more than 2x21 applied. Which is very possible.

So they offered it t0 44,000 employees, and "88'000" employees took the offer? BS. You can't double a number if it was only offered to "44,000 employees". There were no write-in ballots here. Stop lying. GEEZ.

I'm being told that IT management is pushing for everybody to be in March and June. I can't see HR and the upper executives being too happy about that.

When you make sure life changing decision, the sooner you move on, the better.

Our VP shared the number our team needed off payroll (21) and said more than double applied. VP said most leaders feel that everyone should be accepted because the company doesn't want hostages but, that the senior-most leaders are directing groups to accept the original target number and deny everyone else.

Another Director in wireless also told their team that there will in fact be denials due to the overwhelming number of people that applied. Acceptance will be based on tenure and work function. Here's praying everyone who is ready to move on is accepted.

There are no hostages in this crisis. Its a long-term fire sale, everyone must go.

I think this is a good possibility depending on which group you work for. Don’t count your eggs before they hatch.

Not buying it. They want to shed expenses and reorganize and rise again. If you are declined, it’s my impression they have a strong reason and need to prove it. If you are declined you have good reason to ask why.

All rumors til the 10th. They’ve made that very clear. Everything else is trolling. Why be a troll to a fellow coworker who’s in the same bad place as you?

~35% have taken the offer in my unit. Group mgr is saying they're keeping about half of us thru March, the other half gone in Dec.

No retentions until June.

99% of the button pushers will get it.

while there is a very small % who will be rejected, the majority of the 11,000 volunteers have been accepted. The only remaining question is when you go off payroll.

Word on the street is EVERYONE is accepted.

The big question is when are you going.

Since NO ONE (including me) know until the 10th, this is just trolling.

If they only accept people over 20 years, Major Lawsuit will happen.

Even if they beat the lawsuit, it looks really bad.
