Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

In fear of denial

I'll be honest- I clicked the button and am scared to death I won't get it. Maybe my tenure of a decade isn't enough. Maybe they'll find a way to keep me around for "needs of the business". Anyone else afraid they won't be let go?

unless more than 30% of your org has clicked it, you will get it.... Don't worry too much.... It's just a job

what's going to happen?

I agree with 1anf - What kind of employee are you going to get when the company basically says we don't want you, and then makes you stay?

We’ve had a lot of takers in our group; guess us 40% from what I’m hearing. No one is being denied and most will have December off payroll date. Not all are leaving because they dislike Verizon. Verizon has been good to me. I’m moving toward something not running away from. I wish my Verizon brethren well!

Official word is 10 December.

Many of my coworkers have already been "unofficially" told they got it.

No some just want to keep their options open. We arent sure with the longterm so we choose to direct our own path by clicking. Nothing about the company but some dont like to lose control of their own career

I want 12/28 like I wanted my first girlfriend :-)

Worst case is I get a No. I think anyone who is not close to retirement and is not maxing

out with 60mos VSP and clicked YES is basically saying they don't won't to work for VZ any more

  • call it what you like, vote of no confidence, whatever. How can you say, "okay, you don't want to work here, but we want you to stay anyway?" To me that's a disaster waiting to happen, be it low productivity, an un-happy employee ruining morale, and for some very, very small % even a security risk and at the end of the day these folks are probably already looking for another job. Just like those who are RIF'd are walked out that day and all their accounts are disabled, I think for 99.99% of those who clicked YES should be given walking papers (and a nice VSP payout :-)))

I think a better approach would have been a first come first served for each of the off payroll dates. At least this way, you can forward plan the next steps in your life from a career and emotional perspective.

Some were told they wont be accepted. Nothing is official until it comes in writing

Think of where they are out sourcing the most - IT - everyone under IT who volunteer will be let go. It's the other orgs which will have to pick and choose. They want IT, overall, REDUCED that is the big ticket.

I'm approaching 23 years if service and have that fear. I also do not believe "everyone who signed up will get it". Two more weeks to know...

If you volunteered, you'll be let go. Get over yourself.

I’m right there with you. I have 11 years and I’m afraid of the same. I’m in vcm and not sure they are gonna take everyone. I wish you the best
