Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Here we are

I started with an SBC wireless company back in 94. Times were good. SBC started buying all of the Baby Bells. No problem., They left wireless alone. Each market had leadership that was accountable for their markets. It felt like working for a small company in many ways. Morale was good and it was a great place to work. Next was a joint venture between Bell South wireless and SBC wireless, aka Cingular. Some changes in leadership but not many significant changes. Still a fun place to work. Cingular buys AT culture changes...overall still not too bad. Then SBC decides to buy an all but dead company by the name of AT&T, and take their name. 20 + year senior and executive management from this sinking ship start pushing their way in and begin restructuring, building silos, slowly turning what was once a fun company into a heaping pile of excrement. And here we are.

I started with abc wireless in 2001. It has been an interesting ride. The point that is lost all the time is that the 40,000 employees in mobility are still brining in half the money. Directv brings in a lot. The other 150,000 employees bring in 20% of money

I agree with the OP. I started with BellSouth in 1999. The company cared about the employees and the customers. I was proud to wear my BellSouth shirt to the store after work. After the SBC/AT&T takeover, I never wore my T shirt anywhere. People would stop me and ask "When is my service going to be fixed?" I was surplussed last year and I have moved on to a better job.

T executives were pretty much drummed out after the merger. It has been all SBC since. Stephenson is the one to blame. The SBC company type of management creates unbelievable resentment and chaos. SBC has always treated their employees like untrustworthy children. For a short span of time they stopped the fear based management. That’s when we started to change for the better. But about 5 years ago, Randall put the brakes on employee empowerment and reverted back to the SBC fear tactics. That’s when most of us said enough is enough and quit giving 110%. So put the blame where it belongs...on SBC and Randall.

Sorry, but the SBC attitude and management is what's paved the current path T is on. Growth through buyouts and acquisition instead of quality and innovation has been the SBC way for years.

For all practical purposes, T is SBC.

Was even better when it was PacBell. Ayer SBC it gradually all went downhill. I agree that at&t was the part that accelerated the sh-- show we have today.
