Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Emergency meeting and call with the board and top investors Friday

Randy has been requested to join an emergency board meeting on Friday to be on a call with top investors as T slips in to territory not seen since 1995. He may very well be out of a job but it may not be until the beginning of next year as to not spook the market anymore. His days are very limited both the board and investors have already been anxious but closing in the $20s has crossed a line.

An emergency meeting is a good thing! It means they need to come up with some idea's to stop the bleed, hopefully. The realists in mean says this is all part of the plan nd always has been. Stocks drop and the lay offs are announced. The dividend payout was the first clue, the $1,000 tax bonus was #2, and stock drop is #3, This is AT&T tradition. Also, if you go back in history AT&T has always bought media/cable companies & dissected them only to fail horribly. Let's hope Time Warner doesn't let that happen. They don't want anything but the content, not the operating expenses. Let's talk about strategies. AT&T is notorious for sending work overseas so if your not part of a local broadcasting network, your job is at risk. If you have a desk job not contributing to selling or dealing with financial growth, your at risk. If your job can be mechanized, your at risk. My guess is time warner employees will feel the grunt of what AT&T is capable of doing, putting hard working Americans out on the street. Let's face it, isn't that how America operates now? It's the nature of the beast. I do find it hard to believe anything the company says to be truthful, especially After the sbc/at&t merger. It was stated Randall Stevens was NOT going to take over after the name change by December it was announced. I think it's sad how the company thinks it's ok to lie to employees and customers REGULARLY & expect anyone to trust them. If there were any other company hiring that gave good benefits & paid as good, no one would work for AT&T. Not to many choices, even for customers so we all have to deal with the brutal truth and hope fore the best outcome. I just hope this merger with Time Warner proves success so we can all prosper & continue to grow. God speed everyone

Here are the possible scenarios:

1- Randal gets rewarded. No, not kidding. This is an old method to silence the "masses" , and really demoralize those who think to remove him.

2 - Randal gets a golden pack - I expect no lower than 100 mil in cash ( not stocks ).

3 - All the dissent is quashed, bribe some more ... and it all goes away. More layoffs to follow.

I would put my money on the 3rd one.

Even if Randall the Rat is removed from the company, he has made hundreds of millions of dollars during his tenure of destroying this company. Add in his golden parachute and The Rat will be laughing all the way to the bank.

The ones who aren't laughing are all the investors and employees dumb enough to buy this stock.

Um, no fan of Randall aka randy... I was in a Sr leadership role and following the disastrous Ameritech acquisition and severe network outages due lack of of investment to boost Ameritech balance sheet, Whitaker fired several top officers.... that was the rise of Randall and the year over year ~5-7% cut..... Randall is not ed’s Son in law.... for privacy sake, I will not name him here, but he is a Sr manager in AT&T.... a lead do a little research and loon at his daughters last name....

@hpp - Yeah, it's over just like it was over for the dinosaurs when the last major asteroid hit earth. And just like the dinosaurs, it's about to be over for AT&T. And just like the dinosaurs, the only thing that will be left over from this company will be fossilized dinosaur p00 p00 on display in museums across the country.

Ed Whitaker gave the job to his son in law Stevenson so not a great idea. I’m sure he knows exactly what’s going on. We need new CEO as in not another AT&T ‘next in line’ CEO.

This company has so many dinosaurs in it that just the word AT&T will often incite me to think of an endless corridor of bathroom stalls as far as the eye can see.

In each of the bathroom stalls are Tyrannosaurus Rexs taking gigantic dinosaur dumps, clogging up the toilets so much that they keep having to perform an indefinite amount of courtesy flushes. The only three sounds you can hear other than thousands of toilets flushing are the thousands of T-rexs roaring at the top of their lungs, the excrement coming out of their sphincters, and the wailing of their tails against the stall walls as they struggle going back and forth between dropping their massive loads in human sized toilets and trying to flush inefficiently with their tiny little dinosaur hands.

T ENCOURAGES MEDIOCRITY, In network operations the trouble makers were always made managers, I had a d--gged pill taker, co-worker that was involved in a (1) vehicle accident, the truck was demaged beyond repair, the only way my manager could get rid of him: management with a promotion.

It is culture, and no one can change that

There is a reason. Institutional investors abandon AT&T, 2 much drama. Risk, and DOWNSIDE (unions, hurricaines, technology handicapped management, offshoring, ilusion of grandiose).

Many othe companies out there without these risks

Agreed, this company needs a total shakeup,

1- Board of directors allowed this to go unchecked for years, they must go.

2- interview and test competence of all senior all senior executives. Weed out the bad apples

3- bring new leadership.

Not happening, just look at the leadership team from top to bottom, the selection is made out 2 types, of old, tired, and unacomplished people. Mostly nsiders, 25+ years with the company, And females with short and thight skirts, without any formal training in what the business Does.

I suspect Randy is out. He cannot be higher unless they make him non executive chairman. He has been quiet for a while. As an employee I suspected something was going on in the background. I expect him to be out soon, probably as soon as this friday (friday after thanksgiving is a great time to dump bad news on the nation 1) the market closes at 1 pm et; 2) most people are focused on Black Friday, recovering from thanksgiving binge, traveling, out shopping, so they wont pay attention ) . I expect Donvan to be the new CEO. He has been out there a lot (he is CEO of ATT Communications).

For another take on T’s prospects, see this:
