Can We Use Our Personal Days By EOY?

Does anyone know if the clause that all volunteers are expected to “report to work until their assigned last day worked” precludes us from using our remaining personal days between now and then?

So, you still maintain that a person that took only one unplanned day, a sick day, to care for their child and, upon their return, they were fired, and the WRITTEN REASON, the reason that was put on the official record, to justify that firing was “...taking too much unplanned time off.”

Again, you don’t see anything bogus about this tale?

@cmln

Verizon is a big company and all kinds of things happen different in all different groups there are great groups ok groups and terrible ones.

I was about a year in and my coworker came back from a meeting and showed me the printout with the unplanned time off comment and they were out of a job. Was that the real reason? I don’t think so but that was listed prominently on the sheet with a bunch of vague bs. They weren’t the last to leave but worked their 50 hours a week perhaps that wasn’t enough.

Since then I’ve always used personal or vacation time when sick from that experience and from stories from others. I also stock up my vacation time to have a buffer when I get riffed and have for over a decade because that is what I learned when I started from some old timers. They’ll get rid of you for anything but why show up on some report they might look at.

Always use personal days first though as they don’t pay out in most situations. VSP won’t stop it. Of course if I took the package and was expecting to take the last two weeks of the year off I’d be concerned they wouldn’t allow that as they need you those two weeks.

@ctep, you really expect anyone to believe that c---amamie tale. Sure, your “coworker” really got axed “with the ‘written’ reason of taking too much unplanned time off” after taking one solitary sick day?

This has troll BS written all over it.

Who in their right mind would put such a ludicrous thing in writing to justify a firing under the conditions you described:

-otherwise never took an unplanned day off

-didn’t leave early

-or com in late.

Pure hogwash.

I remember being ill and calling in sick on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday that preceeded a planned vacation week. My manager called me Monday to ask if I was still sick because, if I was, and I quote, “I don’t want you wasting your vacation time if you’re still sick. Just put in that you’re ill if you’re not well, and retain your vacation for when you’re feeling better”.

I explained that I was better, but I never forgot, and I always appreciated, the decency of the moment.

A coworker got axed with the written reason of taking too much unplanned time off. They took one sick day for their kid and otherwise never took an unplanned day off, didn’t leave early or come in late.

I had a medical procedure and was told to take a vacation day. “You should never take sick time.”

I accidentally learned (when my team mate told me) that there are sick days (choose ILL in nSAP). Not advertised and no set amount so, I only used two days. Until now I also used personal or vacation days when I was ill.

Managment has sick days? Over 15 years I've never used a sick day. Tell me more about the sick days I've missed out on... I used personal or vacation on those days. Now I'm sad.

Go to "About You" - it tells you how many vacation and personal days you have.

Just like it was said earlier.. get rid of those personal days first.. don't forget about those 5 sick days either! Then vacation can be carried over... I'm holding over 160 of vacation hours.. that check is expected the middle of January from what has been said on the daily hr calls.

Always use personal days before any vacation days. Otherwise they are lost. I'm getting another 6 weeks of pay just from banked vacation to take with me into post Vz life.

No it does not. However, they still must be scheduled based on the needs of the business.

Given that unused personal days are not paid out in most states, I don't think you'll have a problem using them.
