Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Let the countdown begin, 40 days to go.

Eight weeks have passed since the September 24th announcements. There are 22 days until the December 10 notifications and for most rolling off on 12/28, there are 40 days to the last day.

jnx - what's wrong with a count down ticker? When I started back in the 80's, the 1st day I walked in the garage a guy had a ticker on the wall. (Actually those number cards you see for the next customer at the deli in a super market) He would come in each day, take down the next number and toss it in the trash. I also saw many other people sticking numbers up in there cubes or work stations during the great exodus offer of 2003 as well. I did it myself when I left... even though I was working from home at the time. I felt it was a tradition... and a head nod to the old timers I 1st saw doing it over 30yrs ago when I started with Bell.

wjn, that was part of the deal, going to work up until the last day, putting aside all of the emotion and turmoil people have gone through to ultimately reach their decision, this is theoretically an amicable split between employer and employee, no ill will on either side. I personally, will go to work everyday and do my job knowing that the people I have worked with for years will be left with the work that I currently own so following my own conscience, I will go to work, and do my job until the last day they pay me to do that. Then I....am....OUTTA HERE!

True humility is to recognize your value and others value while looking up. It is to see there is far greater than ourself into who we can become, who others can become, and how much more we can do and be.

"Go out with dignity and humility."

Why? Dignity if you wish, but humility? This isn't a sacred calling, just a business transaction that both sides presumably felt satisfactory (or at least better than viable alternatives). With the offer the equation changes,. Those that go may well be happy that they got the enhanced offer, but humility???

Yes it would be wrong to put a count down ticker on your board. Go out with dignity and humility. This is a good company that Is struggling to turn it around. A lot of great people and opportunities over the years. Be thankful and greatful. I hope that the new vision and leadership bring success in the future.

If you learn you are accepted for 12/28, would you really bother going in to work everyday?

40 days, woo hoo! Would it be rude to put a count-down ticker on my white board?
