Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Bottom Line. Verizon 1st Q Starts Jan 1st correct?

Looking for opinions doesn't have to turn into a thread war. Curious how many people think they get rid of the 20 plus year people first regardless of what department they are in. What is your guess on Dec 28th VS March and June? Note I made no assumptions, just asking for opinions.

FYI. I am the OP in this post. 50, and have been working for VZ for 23 years. I asked for "opinions" and at no way was it based off ageism etc. A simple post looking for opinions and some people had to look for a reason to be offended. I wish EVERYONE well.

If you read the original post, it looks like a younger person asking people with more experience for their opinion. In this day and age people had to dissect the post, and look for a way to be offended when there was no comment to be offended by.

I believe they will keep people longer based on the complexity of projects or work that they are currently involved in over tenured years or salary. Think of it this way: What is the The differential in salary for 3 to 6 months v. the inability to come in on time for a major project? or What is the differential in pay v. the risk that this key knowledge will be lost?

Oh, and I'm over 20+ years with the company and I was not offended. I recognized that the 20+ statement in the question was part of the ask "what criterion will they use to sequence the departure of volunteers?".

IMHO, I think they always find ways to push the more tenured, higher paid folks out first for a number of reasons.

If you stay at a company for any length of time you will probably make a lot more than someone just starting out. The only problem with that is a disproportionate amount of older employers get targeted to be kicked out.

Wow! People address are sensitive when they read 20+ years and feel slighted. Maybe you are uncomfortable with being old. Not all of us feel that being old is a bad thing. Maybe just those that are insecure in their lives. I guess you're just on edge because you don't know what's coming next. I feel for you...

the eisp has been offered very stategically such that those groups targeted, high wage earners - most of them older due to seniority, will have no eeoc recourse if they decline the eisp and are later riffed. this strategy is used in many american companies to shrink the workforce.

There are still two remaining acceptable groups that are allowed to be openly attacked by the “so-called” accepting Millennials.

Ageism is okay, as is mocking those who hold religious beliefs.

However, other than these two specific groups, intolerence will not be tolerated.

“Curious how many people think they get rid of the 20 plus year people first regardless of what department they are in...”

OP, there are none so blind as those who will not see.

OP, I’m guessing you view yourself as an open-minded person, accepting of all without prejudice.

I ask you, replace the words “20 plus year people” in your original post with any other descriptive catagorization (i.e., white, black, Muslim, Irish, straight...) and ask yourself, do you still find such a query perfectly acceptable? Why does your inclusiveveness end at age bias?

I agree, you sir are “young and dumb”, as you self describe.

Try to consider others feelings before exhibiting such blatant biased discrimination against people who have done you no wrong.

My opinion is that this thread is a meaningless excercise in futility.

However. I do, nonetheless, have an opinion that offers great insight.

Ready?

Are you sure??

OK, here goes.

The sun will most assuredly rise tomorrow.

Oh, how much richer you all are for my chiming in.

I envy you.

I truly do.

Thank you @WatlbcC-miy. That's what I was looking for, opinions. I may be young and dumb in some people's eyes. I was looking for experienced tenured people to answer that question. Not trigger people into a thread war. Hence, the original post. LOOKING FOR OPINIONS. That's all

Depends on each organization... if you're deep in a project and feel like they need time to get your replacement up to speed, they may delay your departure... or they may be stupid and let you go regardless of the consequences. We can't know with anonymous info.

Or maybe just asking people with 20 plus years with the company for thier opinions triggered people somehow? Go figure. Didn't know asking for an opinion was a bad thing.
