Big Layoff Coming Q1FY19

Well folks, looks like this is going to be the big one.

Just about every group got 'surveys" today.

what a load of cr@p.

post your VP and team here. I'd like to see how widespread the slaughter is.

OP here.....

Collaboration is something you do not something you create and it is facilitated by good leadership.

The head okie will never get it.

Time to bring Ralph back

This purge of legacy employees seems to be rooted in not only staff reductions, but also of persons that are pension eligible. There is widespread speculation that even though at&t gives priority to surplus affected employees, available job opportunities are blocked by human resources. Vacancies are being filled with persons that are promoted from non-management or off the street. Bring in the new, get rid of the old - and offer the enhanced 401k instead of any pension benefit.

@3mka

That was an epic description of the fantasy of collaboration.

Early in the process in January we were told this is corporate wide with the same rules such as dates (3 weeks if you don't look internally and 8 weeks if you do. Employees will be notified Jan 28 so they meet the criteria for the pension calculation extension which says have to be off payroll no later than March 31. Standard severance up to 6 months.

A collaboration zone is an executive wet dream that generates exponential profits from creative and exciting ultra professionals who have little time for anything but work:

"Well, I'm back to drive results now that my non-work responsibilities are so easily taken care of!", said Jen from Australia who specializes in UI/UX design to Kashik who has advanced degrees in chemical biology, particle physics and RAN engineering currently collaborating with Vlad, an 8-year combat veteran who was a pedigree from Columbia Media productions specializing in Consumer marketing and Sally, the MBA and Project Manager as they just effortlessly COLLABORATE on-the-fly to create some new application to change the way people feed their golden retrievers to Wes, the 14 year Accountant, former child actor and aspiring PhD candidate."

So glad I quit Att . I left on my own choice mostly because I had a mo--n as a manager. I am in a company now that actually gives me work. If you didn't talk out of you know what even though you are wrong you get to stay then they get rid of the people who have to clean up all the "leaders" garbage. I let that place get the best of me but when I put my resume out on the market with my skills I got three offers on the first three resumes I sent. I don't understand how people can work in the environment at att and keep their sanity much less their productivity. They should of never let SBC buy all the baby bells back.

Randall being on the council of foreign relations told me all I needed to know.

Bala’s Org- we got surpluses. Some are immediate, some are pending, some are safe. We are in an open office hub of Atlanta. There isn’t any collaboration. Everything is still conference call. I go in 3 days a week just to show my face. Can’t say I get any more done at the office. Most of our bosses quit coming in after the last reorg. Can’t even remember the last time we had a team or group meeting.

I'm in C/onsumer Marketing and I haven't heard anything yet. Strange because it has to be one of the most useless organizations in AT&T. Why would they be getting rid of people who do real work (ATO) and keep people who produce nothing but BS that nobody pays any attention to anyway? Wait . . . sorry . . . I forgot this is AT&T we're talking about.

The C-level gang has read about more innovative and dynamic companies and not really understanding the work think rearranging the offices will make the company Google-like. It is just another example of how incompetent our upper management is, and how the company largely continues to operate on momentum from a bygone era.

But I think that momentum is disappearing and we are going to hit the wall financially after the dust settles from the TW debacle.

Of course typical corporate mentality would be to beg the government for a taxpayer bail out.

A collaboration zone is an area where a group of people can sit around and work on something together. They're a joke, the fact that upper management puts so much stock in them show how they really don't understand what people do in their org. Nobody needs to sit around with four other co-workers to work on something.

If anyone here actually uses these things, I'd like to hear how I'm wrong about this. I've just never actually seen anyone using them like they're intended.

Our team got the Jeff McElfresh email too (To: U.S. ATO management employees), was told that was the notification we were in an affected group.

"This includes reductions in our organization, and others across the company, which will begin later this month and take place over several months."

No surveys that I’m aware of reporting to Altomari but I did hear through the grapevine that there’s a strong possibility they’ll shutter any non “collaboration zone” locations.
