Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Moving around to different jobs to expand your career and skill sets is different than physical relocation. These are two different topics. Even if you relocate to say Dallas, is your job really safe long term? I doubt it. So why risk uprooting when there are no guarantees you won't get let go?

Dont leave, the pay, benefits and Union representation make it worth staying at AT&T unless you can’t handle it.

I was let go after 28 years and I have told my daughter to not look at AT&T after college. It isn't sour grapes since I told my 2nd level to lay me off if there are reductions. But the videos are worthless and I would want my daughter at an actual high tech company, if she wants to work in high tech.

Younger people should use at&t to pay for a degree but then leave. It is a very top down company where all decisions are made in Texas. I would not want to be young and work at at&t. But I'm older and semi retired so I look at things differently. Good luck to all.

+1 go somewhere else. Company has turned into a monster with T specific skills and forced into time consuming tasks all day long, time left for self training to improve usable skills outside T is zero.

I think many people like the giant companies because they seem to be more insulated from the ups and downs of the economy.

The best thing you can do in this world is to find a small, local company to work for and live like you work at McDonalds and save every penny for retirement. Everyone flocks to these multi-national corporations for big bucks but in the end you are left holding the bag...unless you have connections (which 95% don't).

What are you talking about??? There are plenty of opportunities to relocate. One can take the ride from some questionable Indian University in India and ride the H1B visa train to AT&T. Oh, wait, never mind.

@axn relocate to where? On your own dime? For what? There are no "opportunities" unless you are on the HB1 visa program. Wake up you fool, look around.

There or no opportunities within this sinking ship of a company and don't uproot your life and relocate just to keep slaving away for this P O S organization.

There are opportunities within the company you just have to be able to relocate. AT&T and most want a “mobile workforce”. It’s whats beneficial to the company not to the employee.
