Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T IS DOING WHAT OTHERS DON'T

Retraining nearly half its workforce for jobs of the future

AT&T initiated a massive retraining effort after discovering that nearly half of its 250,000 employees lacked the necessary skills needed to keep the company competitive.

Ninety percent of maturing companies expect digital disruption, but only 44 percent are adequately preparing for it.

Despite the federal government's investment in job-retraining efforts, most are deemed ineffective.

The “training” is bs. Like a previous poster said, it’s to help bring the incompetent h1bs up to speed and to give the remaining employees stress and “busywork”.

I am adding my badges to my resume.q. It is worthless training, most of it is free on the web. It's an exercise to bring the H1B and freshies from India up,to speed. We only need button clickers is the word from upper management, no thinking no innovation, just drones.

Are the directors so smart they don't need training or badges. Most of flunkies just kissing a-- and cashing checks. AVP means you kiss real good....most are not very good at their jobs, look where we are ....where are their badges

Good luck finding another job outside of T when you are surplussed. The training doesn’t mean s**t outside of T. In fact other companies chuckled when interviewing and going over the so called training plan on my resume.

Holy cow what a load of BS. That training was total sh--e. It wanted me to take a course on MS Server 2008 to prep for 2020? Nobody is going to hire anyone flashing those sort of training credentials for new tech jobs.... you can keep your kool aid.

I have to agree the training is very basic but I could not say the training would support new skills that would help anyone be competitive at AT&T or elsewhere. I keep current by training myself on my own time, reading and self educating. I have even taken external courses in my own time and received certifications but none adaptable to any currently available positions at T. There definitely needs to be a total overhaul of the available training at least for the Technically competent. I would like to see some courses that actually help one learn new skills. I recently took an advanced "Quantitative Thinking" class outside of T and took away skills from that class I can readily adapt to enhance my skill set on the job.

I completed many courses that were required by my engineering organization on 5G and the cloud for example thru corporate online training the following year 2018 many of those classes were removed from my profile because corporate decided they were no longer necessary. I put many hours into those required classes when I could have recieved training for curriculums that peaked my interest. Meanwhile my profile shows few classes to my credit.

Worthless training. If anyone is learning anything it is because they are very low tech.

Someone is drinking the company cool-aid!

It is true, the company does employ many people that just don't know their own job. We have so many people that don't know a thing about technology.

The training program that is in place, is total JUNK! Training only has value if it enhances the skills of the person obtaining the training and someone else values that training. AT&T does not value the training, nor does any other employer. The training for the most part is super basic, not enough to actually give one the ability to claim any skill.

Half of its employees not having the skills necessary to keep the company competitive? Maybe there is some truth in that.

I have seen layoff after layoff, valuable employees being shown to the door, while worthless folks somehow survive.
