Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Will layoffs start in January?

Or will we get at least a few months reprieve while the buyout dust settles?

Unfortunately, retail and indirect will feel the wrath in 2019! Stores closing or transitioned to big 6 agents. National retail will be absorbed or outsourced. That means DMs will be reduced and whoever prevails will have more stores.

There will always be layoffs that is how they do things. No retraining , training or reallocation just that job is gone we need this new job.

I now expect to be outsourced based on new things since after the VSP ended it is just a matter of when.

Zero layoffs, enough already! There were people who were turned down to leave. Pay attention, clear directions were given when the annoucements were made. Now go troll elsewhere. Over the baby behavior of "the sky is falling" from grown adults. Grow up!

@1vse, no enhanced offers made until pension fund rises above the 75% mark.

Depends on the group.

Maybe an EISP package to the union folks.

None for management, they will probably be none for a year, and they take care of the cluster they created.

Right now organizations are still trying to put together their structure. While is possible that some names could get dropped from the new structures it's highly unlikely that will happen. Management is scrambling for how to continue to function, not pick who they want to get rid of. Even slugs and dead weight will be cherished.

Once the organizations are figured out they'll be hiring in junior level positions to work beside the VSPers so we can train them up. This is all a very large healing process and you don't want to cut into the patient until they've fully healed from the last major surgery.

Sure, some parts of the company like Oath is gonna get savaged RSN, but I would be shocked to see any normal RIFs in the traditional parts of the business anytime within the immediate planning horizon. Absolutely not before June 28th as that would be just begging for lawsuits or the stink-eye from the White House.

In the immediate 6 months people will be leaving, groups will he merging, or getting newly formed. Under those conditions nobody is going to get tapped on the shoulder. Upper management is going to be looking for stability after such major changes. As soon as things become stable then they'll go back to their plan and start executing on the planned cuts schedule.

I don't see any more outsourcing happening until the effects of the current outsourcing is understood, but I have to believe it's coming. They're able to externalize workers and then at that point cuts are simply correct adjustments.

In summary, as far as lower management goes you're safe as houses for the next 10 months. As far as upper management is concerned, it's steady so she goes unless they decide to whack a whole division at a time. If there's a smooth ride then a year from now the slaughterhouse will be spinning up though.

Probably no layoffs until April when new structure will be live and Infosys arrangement will have been live for a few months
