Layoffs hah ha,your lucky if you have a job in 5 years,your company is sinking like a rock ,like its stock price.you think your fearless leader with his put all the company money into 1 product is a road to the top,well if he only comes out with vz's fixed 5G to the house is going to take off,you might as well jump in to a lake...lol you all will be laid off..
Why would their union be fined,I believe the company will be fined if the outside plant belongs to them...

There are very few telephone poles on the island of Manhattan, to my knowledge just two, though I’m unsure if there’s perhaps maybe one or two more that I am unaware of.
One is (was?) on Dyckman Street in Inwood, on the Hudson south of Spuyten Duyvil (Devil’s Whirlpool) near the docks west of where Patrick’s Pub used to be (a one-time favorite haunt of West 153-ers, reps from 5030 Broadway, CO personnel from Dyckman, Convent, ...) the other, I’m unsure where.
So, Mr Millennial, aka @1zfr, the gist of the joke that has apparently sailed effortessly over your cranium, had more to do with the lack of poles present on what was New Amsterdam, and the rest of the island, than your notion of the physical geography that currently encompasses the remaining four other boroughs of NYC.
Perhaps the reference within the joke should have been dumbed down to your level, so that you could understand why the grown-ups were chuckling.

@bua, great idea! The Manhattan crews are unrivaled at keeping up with double woods. You won’t find one.
Not sure why they are still up, but it might turn out to be a good deal in the end, they could probably re-use them for 5G node locations.

Heard there are temporary transfers for line gang in the near future to deal with double pole issue in N.J
About the time GTE and BA merged, a fBA 2nd level mentioned to a number of us that the company would rather pay a fine than comply with a request. The fines were generally less than the cost of compliance.
If that is still true I do not know.
