Why do people think Verizon owes them anything? You did a job, you got paid for doing that job. That's how it works. No more, no less. What else do you believe you are "owed" for something you were already compensated for?

The law puts a limit on the amount of state and local income taxes that can be deducted. If you're hitting that limit, good chance you're not middle class America. No one gives a c-ap about crybabies making 150K a year who act like they are middle class.

Some people came from legacy companies that merged or bought by VZ.
Those people might have had a pension. MCI GTE Alltel. Some lost that pension. Others had it frozen.

Some people work 8 hrs a day for 5 days a week and get paid for 8 hrs a day for 5 days a week. Others work more like 10-12 hrs a day 6-7 days a week and get paid for 8 hrs a day 5 days a week. Shouldn't person #2 expect something more? Yet it doesn't work that way here. The company will take whatever you can give. So it's up to you to decide what you can/will give and stick to it as best you can. Man up.
Addressing OP: A dollar paid for a dollar worked. That’s the essence of your statement, and in a emotionless and binary world (which you seem to exist in) that would be that. It might even, one could argue, apply to day laborers and task-specific contractors. But then, the company would have no reason to ask for, or expect anything beyond that, either.
How many times has someone been asked I do something, preceded by “can’t you just”, or “if you wouldn’t mind”? Clearly, what was being asked of them was beyond the tasked described, and as such, exited the realm of “a dollar paid for a dollar earned”. It was about teamwork. A greater... date I say it.. good. That’s been abused countless times by countless people, but the principle exists nonetheless. And as such, people have every right to expect that dedication and extra effort to be rewarded.
I definitely agree about the 8hrs.
There is a point though where one is taken advantage of and feels owed.
Having to cancel plans and work late for the hundredth time because of things that are someone else’s fault like your manage or heir manager who forgot or just decided they needed something first thing when it’s already 5pm.
Having to work ten hours at work and then go home and work till you pass out for the Xth time because things are due to others and they must get done or you get written up.
Working 7 days a week for months each year and just not bothering logging vacation days because you work them anyways.
Or countless other things. And yeah sure you might get a better performance rating but that amounts to a couple thousand dollars because they have to take from someone else to give it to you.
So I can see why people might feel owed. I also realize we aren’t owed they paid us that is that.

When I started at Verizon I was given the opportunity to earn a pension as well as retiree medical benefits. Verizon took away the pension and retiree benefits. If you’re a fairly new employee, I may agree with you, but with someone with 20-25 years, and currently exceed the rule of 75, I disagree.
