He’s good at s---ing up and putting money in the shareholders pockets. The heck with everybody else. Heard his volunteer organization is about to file Chapter 11. What a leader right?? Let’s run these companies into the ground then fire everybody to offset difference. Guess this what they teach in Business School now.

AT&T paid $4B penalty fine to T-Mobile for withdrawing (I heard one report as high as $7B, unsubstantiated) and his wages were docked $2M, for that year only.

@olc, that is a fair question and here is what I picked up upon further investigation. GE has a number of problems that T, so far, does not entirely suffer from.

GE has a very poor ‘Cash Flow’ problem...a symptom that ATT has not yet seen to date, and this allows T to raise dividends every year with confidence.

GE has been poor, at best, at leading analysts with forward quarterly projections, only to miss them badly. GE attempts to put on an optimistic face but these same analysts know how to read quarterly statements and they can just as easily suggest a better stock to their clients, or readers. Any advances nowadays is a mere attempt, by short term buyers, to find a bottom and sell a few points higher.

The Board members of GE know how important it is to have trust, confidence and accuracy. You lose that, you lose investors, small ones and large institutions. They dumped the last CEO, the new one has a grace period.

Randy landed the Great White Whale, along with the debt. His grace period will depend on these same analyst. T has been receiving stock upgrades, by these analysts, which makes him look good on paper. The next two or three quarters will give everyone (including Board Members) the answers, will he stay or will he go.

Ok some good insight on ole Randy but doesn't all the same stuff apply to the CEO of GE?? they canned him after only a year of dismal performance...Randy has destroyed this company

The follow up posters are spot on in most of their remarks but let’s be more specific.

@idh, has said it all. Re-read his footnotes of 1 & 2, specifically these Board Members are from the likes of Humana, Northern Burlington Santa Fe (rail transport) and many others, simply Google Up AT&T Board Members and everything you need to know is there!

It is an elite grouping and many of the same names will be spotted as multiple boards members with other companies, especially Wall Street. Top exec’s can be seen on 3, or more, Boards at the same time. A democracy it certainly is not.

The sooner everyone understands this, the sooner everyone realizes that Randy will most likely exit on his own terms. And with the merger, he will be given the benefit, a new life. Sorry, but this is how the game is played!

Randall is a Union member so he’s afforded a high level of employment protection...., you didn’t know these CEO’s were Union members? Oh yeah, it’s the Country Club Union. Dues are a bit steep but the perks are killer.

People on boards are, often, CEOs or ex-CEOs. It’s a huge old boys’ network. Board members want to support and protect company CEOS because 1) they wouldn’t want their boards to fire them if they were in a similar situation, and 2) they like to think that their peers and buddies are doing a good job – even when they’re not. It’s the same dynamic that makes doctors protect other doctors, or priests protect other priests.
