If you are so sure VZ is going to tank? Then short sell it.

VZ is beating the market. For now.

Hah, as if. The market by and large doesn't have a clue about cash flow. They see the headline income numbers and p/e, and haven't the foggiest about how to value debt. If VZ borrowed $10B every year and set it on fire the market, like yourself, would quickly forget about it, and indeed, that's exactly what it's just done, because it no longer affects GAAP income. The debt figure alone tells you nothing about the history that got you there, and of course, free cash flow remains unaffected.

The market relies on revenue growth, earnings and cash flow. Meaningless acquisitions which fail to move the needle factor into the the three categories above. Wireline, including the wholesale, consumer and enterprise businesses are wind downs and should be sold off.

No, the stock market's memory is short. It's always too dumb to properly account for what would have been amortized losses. This writedown will artificially inflate income for years.

All that is already built into the current price. Now if you had a crystal ball about the future, then maybe you could make some dough trading. At the end of the day, the stock price is a measure of future expected profits. That didn't change with a writedown of goodwill. If anything the market recognizes that management is working to lower long-term costs which is a good thing.

No real difference in the total value of the company.

Good Will usually do not affect the price, you troll
