Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I thought no lay-offs until next year?

Not a mass layoff but a few people got laid off today, all over district 6.

It really depends on which organization you work in. Some will get end of year notifications while others will be in January. We are getting hints but the real notification will be in mid to late January.

Why would they pay for relocation ? I thought the problem was low stock price and declining revenues from cord cutting etc so they had to make cuts. Or is that just a facade ?

Well, in my office, people got upgrades, and relocation pay. And, for a period of time, if they are laid off at the new location, the company pays for relocation back to the original location.

The notice indicates that the actual layoff will be in Feb 2019 (next year). This is a 60 day notice. Between now and then, it is possible depending on contract language, that some of these affected employees will be offered a job under the guaranteed job offer. That offer might require relocation or be a downgrade.
