Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Layoffs confirmed

We all had a call today where we told 10 to 40 percent would be cut in different groups. What is shameful is the severance package is just few months pay and the company is making billions in profits. Even more c-appy is there are some that can collect social security but refuse to go while the future of the company is being fired. The company culture supports dead weight that are lazy and feel they earned that right due to decades of service

My boss confirmed today that we would be told Friday if we have a job or not. In the first notification, we were told our group would be impacted, no discussion on how many. Happy Holidays!

Folks, do not be angry with those who have higher seniority wanting to hold on to their jobs, it is human nature. People forget that the higher seniority folks have weathered quite a few battle scars of their own and have every right to want to hang on to their job and retire on their own terms, if they can. They were hired into a corporate culture that left you to believe you would have a job for life, rewarded loyalty, hiring family or doing what the company asked with respect to education/training and later telling employees their education/training is not up to par because corporate changed education/skills requirements they desired suddenly. Direct your anger/frustrations at the corporate leadership for constantly changing the goal posts. It is sad that the costs of each of these mergers is human capital.

I respect seniority and work with many that have numerous decades of professionalism. I am referring to the dead weight that have seniority and feel due to such they have earned the right to steal oxygen and paychecks while the junior employees are let go. This is evil selfless and sad it's permitted. Even more since they are eligible to collect full social security and won't leave since our employer prefers to focus on outsourcing instead offerings a semi package to trim the useless overpaid senior that rave about the past.

In reference to the percent being let go you are correct it wasn't on the read the script from HR. It was from people that are in the know. Look around and please pull the blinders off.

@1jvc - "They should do like Verizon and ask who wants to go"..they did this twice in ATO just during the last year (for management). Problem is they only offer standard severance. They can't seem to understand if they would just sweeten the severance a bit they would have a lot more takers. If they offered what Verizon did (3 weeks of pay for every year, capped at 60 weeks) it would be a mass exodus. But they don't want to do that. So they don't get any volunteers other than those that were going to retire anyway (might as well take the 6 month severance and "volunteer" in that case). For everyone else, it's hang on mode through the inevitable surplus activities that follow. Talk about a great way to disengage a work force.

@1ccx, without a doubt you typlify & highlight the people Mark Twain met with and wrote, "Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."

It’s obvious, to all, you are well experienced!

So why do you stay here if everyone else is so lazy ?

Do you use your seniority for better vacation?

Do you use your seniority for a better schedule?

Do you use your seniority for OT or out of town work? Or to refuse it?

If so, please explain why I shouldn’t use my seniority to keep my job.

No insults, just explain.

I’ll wait.

They should do like Verizon and ask who wants to go. They just offered this to 30 thousand employees and were paying up to a year and a half salary plus insurance for a year. This c-ap company pays six weeks if you have 20 years.

This is a lie. Have been on many calls over that last few years and they would never get that specific as to any percentage and certainly would never discuss anything in regard to any other workgroup. Complete fabrication by OP.

WOW!

'Seniority is unfair only to those without it.

Jealousy does not make a career"

...Sounds like another lazy senior employee that feels they are entitled to go through the motions, show up and continue to steal a salary while being almost useless. Sad you can look in the mirror with no self respect while making no effort to help us with the future and see your peers with the nose to the grind all day.

@W90FtD4-UFC’s....Your are correct. This website (the layoff.com) employs bloggers who go back and forth to the various company pages and create “fake news” generating content increasing the page views..

Decades of service...yes.

Perhaps you should have been hired in 1978, then it would be my problem.

But you weren’t , so it’s not.

Seniority is unfair only to those without it.

Jealousy does not make a career.

Sorry, I'm calling B.S. No affected workgroup calls ever, ever call out a percent. If someone mentioned it off the cuff (deviating from the legally approved script), take it for what it's worth, which is not much.

Well looks like the latest trend is.... the flip phone. Wonder if DTV works with that?? These think tanks that come up with this stuff [Rand, Accenture ,et. al.] are so myopic. What happened to original tactical thinking and leadership?

Since most groups are spread across the country, they never meet requirements for WARN notice except when they close a center.

No WARN. I’m sure the co has a way of circumventing the law.., but this will catch up to them. Lawsuits will follow.

No WARN...only to closure of building, 40+ employees at the time.

stealth layoffs WITHOUT reaching the threshold, is a favorite technique, very common here

10-40% needs to be WARN list

Do you have detail date about the layoff in the call?

If 10~40% at the same time, T has to report WARN list.
