Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

It’s important to confirm that your exit paperwork has been done correctly

In my experience if an employees “separation” paperwork is not done to the letter, the severance check will be delayed. If everything is done properly, by both the employee & the manager, it’s less than 6 weeks- closer to 4. You will be surprised at the scope of the documentation, but hey AT&T does know how to cover their butt. It’s probably the 1 and only time you will have full disclosure from this company. You feel like Boy Bye! Also in my experience only 1 out 20 managers know how to do the exit paperwork- after all they seem to believe it doesn’t concern them, and you know where that bunny trail goes. My advice is if you want that check, stand your ground and demand you both sit down together and go through your exit paperwork. If your manager won’t do it, doesn’t know how do it or doesn’t care to do it, go up the chain and demand it be done by your bosses boss.

Or else two months later you will be looking for your check and calling HR, but they won’t know anything because all that paperwork is part of a huge different department. For each HR onboarding specialist there is a opposite HR separation specialist. And yes there are ALWAYS lay offs going on, so it’s a huge department and they are busy.

Thought this was some good advice by @W7Bh4cI-1tvs . It’s much better to double-check that everything is done correctly and demand to go through the paperwork with your manager than to have the severance check not arrive in such a delicate time.

I was surplused 10/19/18 after 19 years just 6 months before being eligible for retirement. My manager never mentioned exit paperwork. I found it on my own and sent it to him and never heard back. I received my pension and severance 4 weeks from last day on payroll. I’m glad to be out had enough of the bs and feel sorry for those still there.

Same problems here. I was on vacation my last few days, but I still had to go in to sign some paperwork. My manager was so clueless had to contact HR, and it still was a mess. Very frustrating.

So true, my area manager did not want to meet with me to complete the paperwork. I had to escalate to her boss, and the Surplus HR coordinator was clueless, incompetence reigns everywhere
