Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Layoffs announcement

Now that those on top know exactly how many people have accepted their offer, anybody worried we'll be getting an announcement on incoming layoffs sometime soon?

Judging by people I work with, the number of those who accepted will definitely be lower than they expected, so they'll have to compensate somehow...

I personally think they are all playing mind games. Some of the directors managers want to make sure people stay clicked so they are saying a ride may be immediate to keep people clicked. Of course it could be true but I have zero trust in management and November 18th seems ridiculous.

Yesterday my director gave hints that RIF can start anytime soon after Nov 17, as VZ target to hit the number after VSP.

Anyone else got some news from their management about future opportunities after reorg done.

In other words, a decent percentage of the people offered the VSP are also part of the RIF list, so if they didn’t click the button, many of them will be getting the tap on the shoulder right after the 17th, with another RIF to follow in early 2019 after transition. We all know that nobody is “safe”, but especially those who were offered the VSP. If you don’t believe that, then ask yourself why the VSP wasn’t offered to some of the existing groups in the organization. There may be a few spots that a VSP person winds up being the best candidate to fill, but for the most part, new org positions are already mapped out with the players identified from those leading the new teams and/or people in groups already performing functions that align with “5-gheee”.

“ a portion of the list will be triggered right after the 17th., followed by the balance after a short transition period. ”

What do you mean by “triggered”? Told their off payroll date? Escorted to the exit?

Sounds like someone who is worried that too many of his betters are going to unliclick and leave him high-and-dry when the next RIF comes. Sneaky, sneaky!

The RIF list already exists. It’s comprised of people who were offered the VSP and a portion of the list will be triggered right after the 17th., followed by the balance after a short transition period. The company will not keep many people around past 12/28/18 an integrate them into new business units only to cut them loose a short time later. It’s all about the numbers. VZ is a reactive organization, not proactive - they aren’t worried how the work will get done, they’ll figure it out as they go along. And, don’t be fooled by directors hinting that there will be lots of opportunities if you stay. It’s nothing more than a selfish move in an effort to get people to “un-click” the button so they hopefully get to have familiar resources in their group for a little longer until the next RIF.

Some of the people just clicked to bargain for higher Position jobs.

20% of the 44k offered equals 8.8 k employees.

W7w8GeL-bql when you say 20%, that means around 30K people... Where did you get that info?

RIF and a package aren't the same. If you get rif'd you don't get to say "No Thanks, I'd rather stay".

If there aren't sufficient numbers of volunteers for the buyout you can be assured there will be rifs.

@W7w8GeL-bql Why would company need to offer the same package for RIF, if they already have offered the package to those people and they refused

Stop your trolling!

Reported VSP take-rates are in the 20% range which should be near target given the cap they put on the severance pay. That may change after this week's "unclick the button" but clearly

layoffs and RIFs are the last thing Vz will do right now. Vz 2.0 needs to figure out the new organization and staffing required. If they RIF'd people now .. they would surely have to get the (VSP) ... just as it was given to those RIF'd in August (pre-VSP) and to the IT divisions rebadged to InfoSys. That will only add more confusion and instability.

The company is now working on/deciding who to hold back until June and who to refuse the offer to.

This is a big business.. They will figure out a way to keep you around for several months. Many people will be leaving.. so a shuffle will need to happen. You may be need OVER THERE.. not knowing you are only needed for a few months until they really figure things out.. Just in time to say bye bye next Fall. I'm just talking though. You won' know until it really does happen.

Suing is an american past time. Most of the suits discussed here don't have a legal leg to stand on

@bic - I would never get legal advise on who to sue from an anonymous rumor board. You could ask an attorney if you have a case, but right now they have themselves pretty protected. This company doesn't make any moves without consulting attorneys.

I don’t follow the logic that the company will get sued if the same package isn’t offered on a future Riff. This is a voluntary offer and not a Riff, currently its a different beast altogether. Riff policy is clear and has been since I have worked here.

They do not know the final numbers yet. As everyone has until the 17th to Uncheck (Infosys people excepted).

igq, All you have RIF'd in the passed are stuck. All in the future are stuck.

No law suit this time.

Correct and all who are RIFed should file class action lawsuits if they don't get the same offer. The company knows what they are doing when it comes to this stuff. There goal is for lower wage employees and the pension fund. That can't run a business but they sure know how to screw employees.

Every group has their target number. So what ever they don't get with the VSP they will simply make up with a RIF. Simple formula 87
