Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Don't get too happy

The big day is December 10, not today. While people had to make the decision by today, nothing will be known about the results of it for weeks.

So you are in for nearly a month of additional worrying, wild guessing and nerve-wracking anticipation courtesy of Verizon.

Notified by 12/10 is what it says, so wouldn't be surprised to start hearing prior to 12/10.

it's up to the management of each organization- 2 managers are leaving our team, and they communicated with their director- we're being moved under a replacement manager effective the Nov 18th.

I don’t think they are planning on contingency. Now if you want to take the last two weeks off they said they’d try but I wonder if there aren’t going to be people forced to work to train.

We usually just get the laptop of the former employee which we can’t access and any files then poof they go. A few months later it gets sorted as the last of our internal customers find the new contact.

It will be interesting to see how far in advance of 12-10 people start getting told their departure date. Official communication implies it may be before 12-10.

On the one hand the earlier it is communicated to management, the earlier they can begin contingency plans. On the other hand, the later you communicate it, the more productivity you may get out of the employee.
