Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

It didn’t take long for the AT&T leadership to start doing what they promised not to do

It was just a matter of time before AT&t started leveraging its position the market, the precise thing that the leadership claimed it wasn’t going to be done. I understand that the urge to produce bigger profits overpowers the rules and the promises that were made, but did they really have to start doing this so early, while the merger can still be undone? This behavior just provides the DOJ with more facts in their quest to overrule the Time Warner acquisition.

Don't bad mouth Randy. He lost us 5 billion with the T-Mobile flop and now lies to Trump to add 7000 USA jobs for the tax break while doing the opposite.

History will treat the deal as the topping signal of the great Bull Market Collapse of 2018-19.

.COM

MCI

Enron

CDS

on the reverse halo effect, friends and family will tell two friends and family of this C%$# treatment and they will tell two friends and family, and so on and so on and so on,,,,,,

@1vfr you are really clueless. People are giving up landlines and “cutting the cord” on cable. I think VZ is onto something here. Focus on wireless. Where are cord cutters going? Wireless of course. Owning content is an interesting thing, we will see how that plays out. But infrastructure in relation to the last mile? Unless you are able to provide higher speed that wireless not sure how much growth that wil be. Providing that last mile is very expensive. VZ might be onto tosmethign here.

@1vfr, I will assume you’re a Millenial (and I do not mean that in a negative connotation) but one that leads to the fact that AT&T history has been lost to many and the fact is our company went down that road before.

The DOJ in, The United States vs. AT&T (1982) believed our company had become, exactly what you have advocated, "a great monopoly" and that we "cornered and dominated the communication market."

The ultimate outcome led to seven separate entities during our breakup. Most re-united and merged over the years, and Southwest Bell (one of those children of the divestiture) eventually bought the parent, AT&T and shortened their own logo to SBC and rebranded the AT&T symbol you see on commercials today.

History reminds us that not all wishes are granted.

I call BS, 1) Professor Wu could not even get the name of the CEO correctly in the original column. 2) Dish is an aggressive negotiator, it has dropped channels frequently due to negotiation falling apart. for Prof Wu to use Dish as an example of the new ATT position is absurd. ATT would be fools (unless they want the deal to be overturned) to do that just before they argue to the court. Its not a coincidence that Dish is holding out just before the argument since Dish opposes the deal!!!

We could have cornered and dominated the communication market. We could have been all alone ! A great monoply ! Owning the plant !, investing in the plant! Making our connectivity the number consumer destination ! We were so close, so dang close ! But ...but ... Randy wanted to be a Hollywood Personality ! Ugh ! Good grief ! What coulda been , mighta been? Ahhhhhhh geeeeze !!!! All we have to look forward to now is the reaplacing of Randall and the selling off of everything by the guy or group that steps in to feast off our carcass !!! It was good while it lasted but the parties over ! Good Nite !

I doubt at&t will spend the money on their network to actually deliver this wonderful content, that they now own.

I have never seen it this bad. I have worked for other Fortune 500 companies, but this is the worst. In my 20 years with the T, I have never seen it so bad. It all started with Randall. He has not a clue. He will never be able to transform this company into a leading media and entertainment company. He is way late to the game. The T way, is to overcharge and bully subscribers. Those days are over. Too many choices out there. People aren't willing to pay that much for TV anymore. Now, if he could find a way to provide free or almost free content and rely on advertising dollars for revenue, instead of screwing everyday people. it might work.

Att has treated both customers and employees so bad that the current backlash is only in the beginning stages. Employees are forced to leave and customers have had enough. Why do you think att is now trying to wheel and deal with comcast. When Game of Thrones is completely over, HBO becomes a mediocre channel.

AT&T must cut to stay competitive in today’s fissured workplace, which now includes lots of unincorporated, self-employed “1099 workers,”
