Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon To Be Sold on 11/13/2018 To Google

This explains the layoffs to reduce headcount and it also explains why Verizon switched to Gmail for the work email server which is odd considering Verizon owns Yahoo. Just think about this if Google tried to buy Yahoo alone it would never get approved in a million years... but now that Verizon owns Yahoo. Google can buy Verizon with the sole intention of the Yahoo control play. Its likely Verizon would be divested in the process meaning store closures and more layoffs.

A lot of fake news in this site. Most rumors are false. I don't think anyone wants to buy landlines from Version.

OP... Hows that "Sale to Google 11/13" prediction working out?

I thought VZ already owned Google

I hope the OP has the guts to come on here after 11-13 to say they were wrong.

An Alphabet (Google) - VZ merger would be extremely difficult to hide. There would be far more speculation and leaks if talks were really afoot. It would be a colossal merger.

I suppose we could throw Softbank into the mix also. :)

Well, one never knows; maybe Softbank will make a play for the wireline side. They would have a hell of a transport pipe and the wireless could go to Google.

Google wanted Fiber, they stopped it.

If they want to own the pipe, 5G makes sense.

In that respect, it totally makes sense for them to buy us.

What makes no sense is a 250 billion price tag that we have. They do sit on a ton cash but not nearly as close to 250B. They'd have to heavily finance and with rising interest rates they would simply be killed.

I'd also buy Qualcomm, in that sense they own the chip, the operating system, the pipe and the content (youtube, affiliated properties, publishers, etc.)

I think it makes perfect sense . They are even changing our desk set up to be more like Googles.

I can see where the Verizon Wireless Brand and customer database could be sold; the rest of the company to be a separate entity that provides the network function.

At present I do not see where this re-org is nothing more than a rehash of the past. This re-org will not pan out too well I suspect. Especially as 5g proves to be an expensive venture. As the company has a greater concern for the stockholder it is almost assured that this current adventurous re-org will not be any wiser than the purchase of AOL, Yahoo, Go90, etc.

None of their past decisions have been for the 'entity' but for the stockholder.

Most enterprises don't use gmail and are all going to 365. We are googles biggest customer. Whatever money we have saved on paper does equal the lost productivity of its inefficiency. Outlook has Corp communication efficiency down to a science -they've been doing it for 25 years. Google could be a logical buyer for Verizon if VZ were for sale. Google fiber and Verizon one fiber are both large initiatives and Google hasn't made a major acquisition in a while.

I think a ggogle acquisition of T-mobile/Sprint makes more sense. Both companies are very cool and progressive, Verizon is thank their sheet don't stank.

"when VZ formed it was the biggest merger of all time. "

Except that it wasn't/ Largest: 1999 takeover of Mannesmann by Vodafone Airtouch PLC at $202 billion (before the 2000 merger of VZ)

I heard Vz is going to buy amazon and Tesla- dude come on with that c-ap. Buyout of a company is more than using common platform.

There are lots of businesses that are using G-Suite. Do you think Google is buying them all? Verizon is currently using WebEx for video conferencing, does that mean Cisco is going to buy Verizon? How did that Google fiber thing work out for them? It didn't. Google wants no part of being a carrier. You folks need to get a grip on reality.

The original poster is the dumbest individual who has officially posted here. The idea is to cut cost. The cost per Google user account is only $5, look it up genius. This is compared to Microsoft licenses. Most importantly dummy with the fake news, Yahoo does not have Office equivalent products, it goes beyond mail. It is called collaboration tools, something you are clueless about.
