Not disputing the current business climate just stating the facts about FAE
Yeah, but nobody cares in the race to the cheapest price point. Good enough at a reasonable price is what customers want. This price point can only be made by the industry outsourcing to turf vendors. Enjoy it while it lasts boys.
I am responding to the commenter who said the FAE group is "a bunch of old timers good at milking the clock" you obviously have never been involved with a real and dedicated FAE dept so I would like to enlighten you if I may. If you have never seen a signal flow diagram of a cellular call look at that on the net. Each and every step that phone call or data session makes as it traverses our network we in FAE have the skills and knowledge to diagnose issues that may arise. We do not specialize in any one facet of the network, we have to have a working knowledge of all. We do not sit around and wait for things to break we proactively surveil and look at trending to identify breaks in the network before they happen. That's just the network portion of our job, we also have to have a working knowledge of generators, hvac, electricity, towers to name a few. We are also on call for outages and service effecting problems 24/7/365. We care about our network and our customers because we live in the service areas that we are responsible for. There will never be any contractors with our level of expertise or dedication in my opinion. As an "old timer" who has been there done that and seen that for 28 years I think I know of what I speak.

FAST will definitely be safer this year and next. Especially as more tasks are taken from SP and moved to FAE. I personally suspect a ~10% reduction in FAE, and a ~30% reduction in SP. I am going to roll the dice and hopefully make it through. Too young to retire, and too old to want to start over...
Wanna bet some of the folks that volunteered to be part of the team's that developed all of the tools and attended all the meetings to come up with the great new ideas find themselves out of jobs. Corporate American has an endless supply of these clever folks willing to tighten their own hangman's noose.
