mbk is correct - What is their to tell..... VZ is not the 1st company to do it and definitely wont be the last, fact is other companies weren't as generous as VZ is being. Calling reporters won't change the reality of whats happening, do you think VZ will reverse riffs because the press is involved? If anything the more press they get the more people will buy the stock because they are keeping their promise of saving 10 billion which will make the stock price increase over the next few years. OP, save you breath and don't waste you time, it'd be better off spent planning your next career move because the train has already left the station & nothing will bring it back.... Take some time digest the reality of what's going on, access your financial situation, update your resume and look for work else where - the world don't stop spinning because VZ has layoff's, bills continue to come & need to be paid. Life isn't always fair so stop dwelling on what use to be, or what should've been... use that energy to move forward.

To ekj , wow you can do simple math. You have a future as a cashier.

A 30 year worker likely started out at $6/hr in 1988 money and worked her way over the years to $50 or $60 an hour.

That doesn’t mean she deserves more than 60 weeks payout. If the company don’t need her, she is worth her 1988 starting salary.

And AFAIK, no-one is getting 60 MONTHS severance (well, exec golden handshakes probably!)

wpq, I don’t care to one day hear a stoty about 30 year Amazon vets that will have made close to a million dollars over their careers.

@wpq, FYI, $1,000,000 divided by 30 years divided by 52 weeks divided by 40 hours is $16 an hour.

I don't care to write a story about 30 year VZ vets that have made over a million dollars over their careers being offered up to 60 months severance.

I rather write about fast food and Walmart workers that make $10/hour and are struggling. Or about Amazon raising minimum wage to $15.

Readers want the sad stories. Not entitled crybabies from VZ.

Know more about what? That this is the reality of the modern society that relies on technology? That you either pander to your shareholders and maximize your returns or you find yourself out of a job? The reality is this: there is absolutely no such thing as allegiance and loyalty in today’s world. The notion that you work 20-30 years with the same company is a fairy tale. You are the only thing that matters as organizations do not have the same dedication you have towards them. Verizon doesn’t care if the employees are union or non-union, we will all be removed at some degree at their choosing. There is no one that is untouchable. If you sit in your corner thinking that nothing is going to happen to me, you aren’t looking out for your best interest nor your future.
